Job summary

Cobb County Government seeks a skilled equipment operator to maintain and build county roads and related infrastructure. You will drive excavators, loaders, dozers and graders, perform trenching, and support heavy construction while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

The role requires a valid Class B CDL, physical capability for demanding work, and daily on-site operation in Cobb County. Training for additional certifications may be required within 12 months.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; three years of experience operating equipment in infrastructure maintenance or related field.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License; some assignments may require Class A CDL and/or endorsements; must obtain Flagging Certification and 1A Erosion Certification within 12 months from hire date.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavator, track hoe, and backhoe for digging and trenching on public utilities and infrastructure projects.
• Operate loader to move materials and load trucks, controlling height and angle for safe payload delivery.
• Operate dozer, grader, scraper, and compactor to shape grades and prepare surfaces for pavement and construction.
• Transport equipment and materials using large trucks and trailers; ensure secure loads and roadway safety.
• Inspect and prepare equipment for daily operation; perform light maintenance and refueling as needed.
• Perform manual labor tasks to support construction and maintenance projects and assist other crew members.
