Job summary

Cobb County Government seeks an experienced equipment operator to drive and operate heavy vehicles and machinery for maintenance, utilities, and construction on county property and rights-of-way. The job requires a high school diploma or GED, a valid Class B CDL (Class A may be required), ability to perform physically demanding work, and strict adherence to safety procedures.

Inclement weather may require reporting to non-standard hours.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; two years of equipment operating experience preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License; some assignments may require Class A and/or endorsements.
  • Requires physical capability for moderately demanding manual labor and operating heavy equipment.
  • Safety procedures must be followed; PPE worn; monitor environment and traffic conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Drive and operate heavy vehicles and equipment for maintenance, upkeep, and construction projects.
  • Maneuver and position equipment to load, unload, and transport materials and debris.
  • Operate roll-off trucks, backhoes, bobcats, and mowing tractors as needed.
  • Perform basic pre-operation checks and routine maintenance; refuel and grease equipment.
  • Coordinate with supervisor and crews; follow safety protocols and document work orders as required.
