Job summary

Fairfield Residential seeks an experienced Construction & Development Counsel to advise on contracts, risk, disputes and project delivery across our multifamily portfolio. This hybrid role is based at our San Diego corporate office near Sorrento Valley, requiring in-office attendance within commuting distance.

Candidates must hold a Juris Doctor, be admitted to the California bar, and have at least 7 years of construction or real estate experience, with familiarity in AIA contracts and strong

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Active California bar membership in good standing.
• Admission to practice law in California required.

Responsibilities

• Act as primary legal advisor to construction team on day-to-day management of business, disputes and risks.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and interpret construction, design, and development contracts and related agreements.
• Prepare and negotiate general contractor, subcontractor, and design-build agreements using AIA forms.
• Manage development and construction-related agreements, amendments, change orders, and related documents.
• Manage and resolve disputes involving contractors, subcontractors, design professionals, and suppliers.
• Review construction claims, lien notices, and other matters requiring legal interpretation.
• Provide guidance throughout project planning, entitlement, design, procurement, construction, and closeout.
