Job summary

Unknown Company seeks a senior Controller to lead all accounting, payroll, reporting and compliance. This hands-on role collaborates with ownership, project managers and estimators, ensuring accurate financials and strategic planning across the business.

You will own job costing, payroll, AIA pay apps and audits, while strengthening internal controls and supporting growth initiatives with ownership. A background in construction accounting is required and CPA/CMA is a plus.

Qualifications

• Construction accounting experience required in GC or subcontractor.
• 7–10 years in construction preferred; 5+ years progressive accounting.
• Strong job costing, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion knowledge.
• Experience with union fringe reporting and certified payroll.
• Bachelor's in accounting/finance; CPA/CMA a plus; advanced Excel skills.
• Experience with construction software (Sage/Foundation/Viewpoint) and strong communication with ownership.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting operations and monthly/annual financial statements.
• Own job costing and WIP reporting from award to closeout; flag overruns.
• Manage owner billings, AIA pay apps, change orders and retainage.
• Handle union payroll, fringe reporting and certified payroll for prevailing wage.
• Forecast cash flow; manage banking, bonds, insurance and lenders.
• Coordinate audits, reviews and CPA tax prep with external firm.
• Strengthen internal controls and participate in budgeting and planning.
