Job summary

Accounting Search in Riverside, California seeks an experienced construction attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of construction industry litigation and dispute resolution, with strong contract drafting skills and knowledge of HVAC, MEP, and new construction.

You will review and draft construction contracts, advise clients, handle disputes to avoid litigation when possible, and supervise junior staff. California bar membership required.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree is required.
• Must be an active member of the ABA/local bar association in California.
• 5-10 years of litigation experience and dispute resolution as a defense attorney or general counsel is desired.
• Specialty in construction law is strongly preferred.
• Current knowledge of the construction industry including labor law, contracts, processes, methods, building codes, and safety regulations is required.
• Ability to handle heavy caseload with little supervision.
• Strong writing skills, decision-making, problem-solving, interpersonal skills, and communication skills are necessary.

Responsibilities

• Review, modify, and create construction contracts, government contracts, and contractor agreements that protect from potential general liability and payment protection issues
• Provide legal counsel to clients by analyzing their situation, defining their needs, and determining a proper strategy and course of action
• Prepare legal documents, such as correspondence, motions, pleadings, briefs, and claims on behalf of the client
• Resolve construction claims and disputes regarding contracts, construction defects, torts, payments, bond claims, and liens to avoid litigation and arbitration where possible
• Mediate, negotiate, arbitrate, litigate, and argue motions on behalf of clients during legal proceedings in court
• Supervise tasks assigned to administrative staff and paralegals and work with clerks to set up client billing, meetings, and wrap up of case projects
