Job summary

Syms Strategic Group (SSG) seeks a Senior Configuration Analyst to support VA applications and lead migration to the cloud. The role emphasizes CM tool development, build procedures, and configuration standards across internal and COTS software products.

The ideal candidate delivers CM and release engineering excellence in regulated environments, mentors junior staff, and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure compliant, reproducible builds for multiple projects.

Qualifications

Experience leading complex software builds and releases across environments.
Experience in regulated or federal environments.
Deep expertise in software configuration management and release engineering.
Broad knowledge of development, QA, systems engineering, and DevOps.
Experience with CM practices: identification, baselining, change control, status accounting.
Experience with source control systems (Git, GitLab, GitHub, Azure DevOps Repos, Subversion).
Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Azure DevOps Pipelines, GitHub Actions) and artifact repositories (Nexus, Artifactory).
Scripting for automation (Bash, PowerShell, Python).
Experience with Infrastructure as code and environment management (Ansible and Terraform).
Knowledge of software quality standards, governance, and training developers on CM tools.
Proficiency with work management tools (JIRA, Azure Boards, Trello) and documentation tools (Confluence, Visio, Lucidchart).
Understanding of database concepts, dependency management, and build reproducibility.
Strong analytical skills for investigating build failures, dependency conflicts, and deployment issues.
Excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
Mentoring and training CM best practices.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

Support VA applications and migrate to the cloud.
Develop and maintain CM tools for identification, control, reporting, and delivery of software and COTS products.
Perform CM and release tasks to document and align with hardware configurations and logisitcal needs.
Design, develop, automate, and maintain productivity tools to improve software modeling and development.
Design and implement build procedures to support product development.
Develop software configuration standards for company-wide use.
Train software developers in CM tools and quality standards.
Provide technical guidance and solutions to complex problems.
Operate autonomously and make sound decisions.
Ensure compliant, repeatable build and deployment processes across projects.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
Lead and train junior analysts/engineers in CM best practices.
