RedLine is seeking a Senior Configuration Manager with a Meteorological background to work in a fast-paced Agile development environment for modernizing science-driven applications to operate on cloud and HPC platforms in a NOAA operations environment.
Candidate must have US citizenship or be a US Permanent Resident (No Sponsorship or Work Visas). The ability to obtain a Public Trust security clearance is a mandatory requirement for this position. Responsibilities:
- Work on a small agile team to deliver a prototype AI global-nested forecast system for atmospheric river forecasts (AIUFS-AR)
- Coordinate with team members and key stakeholders to develop and optimize a workflow that will deploy the AIUFS-AR.
- Analyze, process, and model metadata then interpret the results to create actionable plans.
- Work with AI training data sets such as GFS, GEFS, GDAS, UFS-Replay, and CONUS404
- Define and implement machine learning algorithms against the collected data.
- Benchmark the computational performance of the AIUFS-AR prototype
- Provide training on the AIUFS-AR
- Support the configuration management of a public-facing and open-source GitHub repository and documentation for global AI models.

Basic Qualifications:
- Knowledge of workflow development to enable AIUFS-AR capability.
- Ability to optimize and benchmark Fortran source code for AIUFS-AR
- HPC experience in both on-premise and cloud computing technologies.
- Knowledge of end-to-end model testing frameworks for UFS applications.
- Experience using programming languages such as Fortran and Python in an Agile environment.
- Experience working with datasets of various formats including NetCDF, GRIB, and/or ZARR
- Simulation and modeling experience in an HPC environment (cloud and on-prem)
- Experience discovering new algorithms for solving problems and building programs to automate reoccurring tasks.
- Knowledge of data analytics, with at least 1year of experience using Machine Learning (ML)/Artificial Intelligence (AI) for data mining, data visualization, and reporting.
- At least 1 year of solving business problems through undirected research and framing open-ended industry questions.
- At least 1 year of Lifecycle Development experience (e.g. Requirements, Design, Testing)
Ability to communicate technical information to management and the scientific community, verbally and in writing - Ability to work as a member of small team using the Scrum methodology
- Proven ability to prioritize and execute multiple concurrent project activities
- Knowledge of resource management platforms such as PBS or SLURM and of workflow management software such as ecFlow or Rocoto
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Agile or Lean-based development principles (e.g. Sprints, Scrums, Backlogs)
Willingness to take on a Product Owner and/or Scrum Master role - Knowledge of Cloud Services in a Commercial Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS) or Platform as Service (PAAS) environment
- Experience using Cloud-based ML/AI services on data sets from Cloud-based repositories.
- Experience in building and running AI numerical weather models and/or NOAA-based atmospheric/coupled forecast model workflows.
- Knowledge of Cloud Services in a Commercial Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS) or Platform as Service (PAAS) environment
- This position requires the ability to access systems that contain information restricted to US Persons (citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents) based on certain Federal Government contractual requirements. Due to the nature of the work, we can only consider US persons who are able to pass a National Agency Clearance with Inquiries (NACI) screenings.
Required Education & Experience:
8 years of relevant experience with a BS degree in Meteorology, Computer Science, or an IT related field preferred (Optionally STEM focused - Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics with relevant work experience around the required skills above)
