Job summary

X Energy in Gaithersburg, Maryland, seeks an Engineer V, Configuration Management to lead CM for multiple projects, guiding program leadership in Planning, Identification, Change Control, Status Accounting, and Data Management. You will review and update CDM processes, audit compliance, and drive continuous improvement.

Responsibilities include maintaining baselines, establishing the source of truth, and coordinating with engineering, manufacturing, and quality to ensure proper design

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
• Typically requires 15+ years of progressive experience in configuration management, engineering change control, document control, product data management, or a related technical discipline.
• Demonstrated experience managing configuration records, engineering changes, and traceability data in a complex technical environment.
• Strong understanding of configuration management principles, baselines, change control, status accounting, and traceability.

Responsibilities

• Review and manage proposed changes to hardware and software to ensure updates are evaluated, approved, documented, and incorporated into the configuration baseline.
• Maintain configuration status accounting records to ensure configurations align with approved engineering documentation.
• Establish and improve the configuration source of truth across projects by standardizing records.
• Serve as liaison between engineering, manufacturing, and quality to ensure current, approved design information is used.
• Manage part traceability including serial and lot numbers.
• Evaluate impact of changes on downstream docs, manufacturing readiness, and quality records.
• Support configuration audits, status reviews, and internal assessments by preparing records and resolving discrepancies.
• Develop and refine digital tools, databases, and workflows to improve configuration data accessibility.
• Identify opportunities to strengthen CM practices and visibility into status.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve configuration issues and support change control.
• Provide guidance on configuration requirements, records management, and traceability.
• Coordinate with departments to plan product baselines and documentation.
• Conduct configuration audits to verify conformance and resolve discrepancies.
• Provide expert guidance on CM best practices to project teams.
• Review and analyze released engineering change data and coordinate updates across teams.
