Job summary

Virtasant is seeking a Senior Compute Engineer (Go + Kubernetes) to design, refactor, and scale large Golang codebases. You will read and contribute to core services, write comprehensive tests, and apply Test Driven Development (TDD) practices.

Deep dive into Kubernetes internals, containers (Docker), Linux resources, and PostgreSQL; build robust API services in Go and monitor systems with Prometheus. This fully remote role supports teams across 130+ countries, with hours aligned to PST.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred in CS/Engineering or related field.
• 14+ years of professional software development experience.
• Proven Kubernetes and container technologies experience.
• Strong problem-solving and fast-paced work ability.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

Senior Compute Engineer (Go + Kube)

Location: Brazil or Mexico (Must be able to work 8:00am-5:00pm PST)

The Role

Golang Proficiency:

Demonstrate deep knowledge of Golang, including language internals.

Capable of reading and understanding large Golang codebases.

Design, refactor, and write patches for extensive Golang codebases.

Write comprehensive tests using the standard Golang library, Ginkgo, and Gomega.

Utilize Test Driven Development (TDD) practices effectively.

Troubleshooting and Debugging:

Troubleshoot applications using logs and profiling techniques.

Kubernetes Expertise:

In-depth knowledge of Kubernetes, focusing on internal mechanisms and resource quota system management.

Hands‑on experience deploying, scaling, and maintaining applications on Kubernetes platforms.

Container Technology:

Extensive knowledge of container technologies, including Docker and Containers.

Strong understanding of Linux-based systems, especially control groups features related to resource management and container technology.

Database Development and Monitoring:

Proficient in database systems, particularly PostgreSQL.

Knowledge of Prometheus and general metrics and monitoring systems.

API and Microservices Development:

Experience developing API services in Golang.

Strong concepts of web/HTTP microservices development.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred).

14+ years of professional experience in software development.

Proven experience with Kubernetes and container technologies.

Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred skills and experience:

Experience/knowledge of Java and the ability to read and understand code.

Strong programming experience (preferably in Python or Java) with Kubernetes.

Experience managing monorepos.

Familiarity with CI tools.

Experience with Bazel as a build system.
