Job description

Senior Computational Biologist (Single Cell Genomics Expertise) - Remote

Data Science and Computational Biology are key components of Omniscope’s approach to reading the immune system to sense, diagnose, and monitor diseases. We are looking for a highly motivated computational biologist to assist in our effort to decipher the Immune Code by converging immunology, genomics, and machine learning. Our mission to leverage immune cells as a universal diagnostic tool will be transformative for health care and we would be delighted if you would join our exciting journey. Successful candidates must have a strong background in computational biology as well as a good understanding of immunology.

Omniscope generates deep profiles of T cell and B cell receptor (TCR/BCR) repertoires from millions of single cells for a high-resolution profile of immune specificities and dynamics in clinical areas, such as immunotherapy for cancer and vaccines for infectious diseases. The Senior Computational Biologist will be part of the Computational Biology team and will strategically guide our translational and clinical projects and develop novel innovative tools jointly with our technologists. He/she will also take part in R&D activities, developing computational frameworks for the profiling and interpretation of the Immune Code. Deep knowledge of single-cell genomics (e.g. transcriptomics), statistical theory, and programming is essential for this role.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
  • Apply and develop advanced tools and pipelines for single-cell genomics analysis and single-cell immune repertoire (TCR/BCR) sequencing.
  • Apply bioinformatics, statistics, and modeling for data interpretation in the context of the adaptive immune system.
  • Apply advanced tools for the integrative analysis and visualization of large datasets in systems immunology.
  • Lead the analysis and interpretation of large-scale collaborative projects with translational and clinical/pharma partners.
  • Contribute to R&D activities to enable rapid progression in our understanding of the Immune Code.
  • Guide study design with scientists for appropriately powered and properly controlled projects to meet experimental and translational objectives.
Qualifications

Must have:

  • MSc in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Immunology, Biomedicine, or related fields.
  • 3+ years of experience in single-cell genomics analysis with research experience in translational science (preferably in immunology).
  • Strong background in biology/immunology and/or translational research with strong statistical and quantitative data analysis skills.
  • Experience in developing bioinformatics workflows for NGS-based data and assays.
  • Proven ability to develop new tools for the integrative analysis of multi-dimensional datasets.
  • Familiarity with the major public sources of transcriptomic and genomic data.
  • Strong scientific background and publication record with proven high levels of performance.
  • Significant experience with Python/R/Julia.

Nice to have:

  • PhD in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Immunology, or related fields.
  • Experience with clinical patient data and biomarker collection plans.
  • Experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence algorithms and pipelines.
  • Packages: pandas, Numpy, Matplotlib, and Biopython.
  • Benchmarking and performance optimization experience.
  • Experience with Jupyter Notebooks.
Competences
  • Excellent verbal, written, analytical, and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to own planning, execution, and delivery of scientific projects.
  • Experience coordinating collaborative projects.
Location and travel
  • Remotely (preference for Malta based).
  • The core team is based in European time zones.
  • Travel may be required occasionally.
