Job summary

Karman Space & Defense is seeking a Composites Manufacturing Engineer III in Huntington Beach, CA. The role leads complex composite manufacturing engineering efforts, drives design, tooling development, and documentation, and collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to meet customer requirements.

You will support production with process control, feasibility studies, and manufacturability reviews, while coordinating with engineering, production, and program teams in a fast-paced defense

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience in aerospace manufacturing or composite design.
• Experience with aerospace composite manufacturing methodologies; autoclave or press molding is a plus.
• GD&T and blueprint reading proficiency.
• Modeling and drafting capabilities.
• Experience designing molds and tooling for composite processing.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering specs, drawings and material specs.
• DFM/design-for-manufacturing experience for small programs and higher-rate production.
• Knowledge of composite development for military or commercial systems.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across projects.
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
• Customer support experience in one-on-one environments.
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical, root-cause analysis, and risk assessment skills.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversees daily progress of projects to meet objectives and customer requirements.
• Reviews customer drawings to evaluate producibility and cost implications.
• Formulates conceptual designs for composite aerospace products.
• Develops fabrication and process-control documentation for composites.
• Designs and reviews tooling to achieve production rate and quality.
• Acts as SME and technical interface with customers for updates and resolutions.
• Assists with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Conducts peer reviews of docs and tooling designs.
• Develops detailed proposals in response to RFQs/RFIs.
