Descripción del empleo

Lyten is leading an industrial revolution through Lyten 3D Graphene™, a breakthrough supermaterial unlocking a new generation of products — from lithium–sulfur batteries and energy storage systems to concrete admixtures, lightweight composites, and next-generation sensors that are revolutionizing industries. Together, these innovations are making a massive global improvement and driving real-world impact across energy, mobility, construction, and defense.

At Lyten, we believe the most meaningful careers begin with purpose — and with people who want to make a difference. We’re not just developing advanced supermaterials — we’re about to change the world as we know it, reshaping how energy is stored, how products are built, and how progress is made.

We’re entering an exciting growth phase, scaling production across the U.S. and Europe and expanding our team of engineers, scientists, and innovators.

Senior Composites Engineer
Position Overview

We are seeking a highly driven Senior Composites Engineer to lead the development of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) formulations integrating Lyten’s proprietary materials. In this role, you will be the technical anchor for integrating our advanced nanomaterials into resin systems tailored for high-performance composite applications.

You will work cross-functionally, serving as the critical bridge between the internal materials synthesis team, product engineering teams, and the end-product manufacturing teams (both internal and external partners). Your primary objective will be to formulate, scale, and deliver manufacturable resin systems for use in prepreg, resin transfer molding (RTM), or similar composite manufacturing formats.

Please note: This is a heavily applied, commercial product development role. We are seeking candidates with a proven track record of bringing materials from the lab into scaled manufacturing, rather than purely academic or fundamental research experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Formulation & Development:

    • Design and formulate polymer matrix systems (e.g., epoxies, thermoplastics, or advanced thermosets) incorporating Lyten 3D Graphene™ to enhance mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties in CFRPs.
    • Optimize resin rheology, tack, out-life, and cure kinetics specifically for prepreg manufacturing and automated layup processes.
  • Cross-Functional Integration:

    • Create and communicate project documentation and share timelines and results in the form of presentations with internal teams
    • Collaborate closely with the internal materials team to dial in nanomaterial functionalization and dispersion techniques.
    • Partner with product teams to define material specifications based on end-user mechanical and environmental requirements.
    • Work hand-in-hand with end-product manufacturing teams to ensure formulations are drop-in compatible with existing prepreg, towpreg, or liquid molding production lines.
  • Ability to travel periodically to other facilities, customer visits and trade shows

  • Process Scale-Up & Validation:

    • Transition material formulations from bench-top R&D to pilot scale, and ultimately into high-volume commercial manufacturing.
    • Develop and execute design of experiments (DoE) to optimize formulation processing parameters.
  • Characterization & Testing:

    • Oversee thermal, rheological, and mechanical testing (e.g., DMA, DSC, TGA, Rheometry, Tensile/Flexural/Impact testing) to validate material performance against target specs.
    • Characterize, troubleshoot and resolve material and process-related manufacturing defects (e.g., voids, poor wet-out, delamination).
Required Qualifications
  • Education & Experience:

    • BS in Materials Science, Polymer Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Composite Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of experience; OR
    • MS with 3+ years of experience; OR
    • PhD with 1+ year of experience.
  • Industry Focus: Direct, hands-on experience in commercial product development within the composites or polymers industry (this requirement is strictly for industry experience; purely academic or postdoctoral research will not fulfill this requirement).

  • Technical Expertise:

    • Deep understanding of polymer chemistry, resin formulation, and composite matrix design.
    • Direct experience formulating materials for prepreg manufacturing, RTM, or similar advanced composite processing methods.
    • Strong knowledge of the interactions between carbon fiber reinforcements, sizing, and polymer matrices.
  • Communication: Ability to seamlessly translate technical material data into actionable manufacturing guidelines across diverse teams.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience dispersing nanomaterials (graphene, carbon nanotubes, etc.) into polymer matrices.
  • Proven track record of taking a composite material product from initial concept through successful commercialization and mass production.
  • Experience in the aerospace, automotive, or sporting goods industries working with advanced lightweight structures.
