Job summary

S&C Electric Company in Chicago, Illinois is seeking a Senior Component Quality Technologist to support inspection, quality planning, and first article inspection of fabricated parts and assemblies.

You will read drawings, use dimensional measuring tools, and communicate abnormalities clearly to engineers while contributing to safe, efficient operations and ongoing quality improvements across the shop floor.

Qualifications

• 4 years of manufacturing experience.
• Understanding of basic GD&T and metrology.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings.
• Experience using dimensional measuring tools and resistance meters.
• Familiarity with Oracle, QMS (Compliance Quest) and SmarTeam is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Complete recording of abnormalities on checklists and reports.

Hours

• 6:00 am – 2:30 pm (Mon-Fri) On-Site
• OT (overtime) as needed (10 hours per week)

Compensation

At S&C, we are dedicated to providing competitive and equitable compensation for all our team members, and we are committed to transparency in our pay practices. The estimated annual base salary range for this position is $59,081-$76,373. Individual pay within this salary range is determined by several compensable factors, including performance, knowledge, job-related skills and experience, and relevant education or training. This role is also eligible for S&C’s annual incentive plan (AIP), subject to eligibility criteria.

Are you passionate about Quality and Inspection? S&C Electric Company is seeking a dynamic individual to join our inspection department. As a Senior Component Quality Technologist, you’ll be crucial in ensuring smooth operations and supporting our diverse team. The Quality Assurance organization provides a variety of services aimed at helping its internal customers, S&C leaders and team members, deliver superior quality to our customers. Quality planning, inspection, audit, quality information, quality improvement consulting, and quality communications are examples of the kind of services that the organization provides. In this job you will be responsible for inspecting fabricated parts, sub-assemblies and final assemblies, including painted components, made from various machines such as shears, punch presses, and welding work centers. You will be required to work with assembly and detailed prints, industry standards, routings, BOMs, specifications, instruction bulletins, and customer notes. Inspecting the products will require you to use various pieces of inspection equipment and the ability to select the appropriate measuring equipment such as tape measures, go/no go gages, special gages, torque wrenches, thread plug gages, fluke meters, and fuses holder standards.

The job will require you to clearly communicate verbally and in written format. Abnormal conditions, must be clearly recorded on the Checklist, DPU report, and/or on a NMR. All defects will be recorded and clearly explained to assembly team members and shop floor leadership. There will be times when product will be placed on hold until you clearly explain the abnormal conditions to engineers so they can determine if the product could be sent to the customer or needs to be reworked.

Key Responsibilities

• Complete recording of abnormalities on the checklists, DPU reports, and/or non-conforming material reports.
• Completing checklist accurately to maintain smooth part flow.
• Inspecting fabricated parts.
• Performing First article inspection
• An awareness of necessary safety practices and procedures.
• Maintain appropriate levels of housekeeping.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

• 4 years of experience working within a manufacturing environment
• Basic understanding of Metrology
• Understanding of basic GD&T
• MS Outlook skills.
• Ability to use shop math.
• Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings for fabricated parts, mechanical assemblies and specials.
• Ability to use basic dimensional measuring tools.
• Ability to use a resistance meter.
• Ability to maintain accurate records.
• Ability to support departmental team members on short notice.
• Ability to change your start times on short notice as needed.
• Ability to work independently in a service-oriented environment.
• Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to use a pallet jack and ladder safely.
• Ability to inspect from elevated heights when necessary.
• Willingness to learn software such as Oracle, Compliance Quest (QMS) and SmarTeam.
• Ability to navigate to E-Docs and Operating System Documents on SharePoint or E-Vault.

MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Standing: Most tasks performed in a standing position with frequent walking.
• Lifting: Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from ¼ to 40 lbs.
• Walking: Frequent walking short distances (total one to two miles)
• Carrying: Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from ¼ to 40 lbs.
• Pushing: Frequent use of cart to transport material
• Pulling: Frequent use of cart to transport material
• Bending: Frequent bending and crouching required
• Reaching: Occasional full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees
• Handling: Continuous handling of parts ranging in size from ¼ to 40 lbs.
