Halff Associates Inc. is seeking to hire an experienced planning professional to join our Florida-based teams as a Senior Community Planner. The ideal person for this position can thrive in a collaborative work environment with an interdisciplinary team of planners, landscape architects, and engineers on a variety of planning efforts with both public and private entities. Halff’s Florida-based planning and landscape architecture teams are involved in exciting planning projects throughout the State of Florida and beyond ranging from comprehensive plans; community redevelopment plans; parks, recreation, and trails plans; active transportation plans; downtown, corridor and special area plans; land planning; development code preparation and administration; and more.

The responsibilities of the Senior Community Planner will include project management and leadership of public engagement, plan development, and technical report writing and document production, including maps and graphic elements needed to convey the concepts and ideas generated in each planning effort. The Senior Community Planner will mentor younger staff; balance client, company, and project team responsibilities; manage budgets and tasks; and oversee the preparation of high-quality documents and deliverables. The successful candidate will also be skilled at leading diverse public engagement programs, possess a confident presentation style, and be proficient at managing the competing interests of project stakeholders, as necessary. In addition, the candidate will periodically participate in business development activities and represent the firm. We will prioritize candidates that wish to locate in either our Jacksonville or Tampa offices although candidates who wish to locate to one of our other Florida offices may also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in community/urban planning, landscape architecture, architecture, or a closely related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in a planning capacity.
  • 3 years of project management experience.
  • Significant and recent project management experience in Florida.
  • Strong knowledge of computer programs (GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office programs) and the ability to produce attractive maps, graphics, and written documents.
  • Ability to travel periodically to client jurisdictions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in community/urban planning, landscape architecture, architecture, or a closely related field.
  • Experience in both the public and private sector.
  • Parks systems master planning and/or trail master planning a plus.
  • Well organized, meticulous, and highly motivated.
  • Demonstrated abilities in facilitating community stakeholder input and public meetings.
  • Strong technical writing and graphic skills.
  • AICP and/or other certifications/professional registrations from our allied professions (PLA, AIA, CNU-A, LEED-ND, etc.).
