Job summary

Center for Family Representation seeks a Senior Community Engagement Advocate in New York, NY for full-time work with CFR’s Department of Government and Community Affairs. The role focuses on growing CFR’s community presence across all five boroughs and coordinating engagements with community partners.

The position requires collaboration with attorneys, social workers, parent advocates and CFR teams, along with occasional after-hours events; CFR emphasizes serving communities affected by family

Qualifications

• At least 4 years experience advocating on behalf of New York City communities.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Experience planning community facing events, such as family fun day or know-your-rights sessions.
• Experience tabling and sharing information with the general public.
• Knowledge of CFR's community resources in 1+ boroughs CFR serves.
• History of coalition building and collaboration.
• Ability to work as part of a team and build relationships.
• Strong time management and communication skills.
• Self-motivated and able to work nights and some weekends for events.
• Ability to lift and carry 25 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Lead community outreach efforts in partnership with CFR leadership across CFR.
• Identify new opportunities for strategic growth for CFRs community engagement work.
• Identify community leaders for partnerships to advance CFRs CE and policy goals.
• Work on special projects with colleagues as needed.
• Oversee ongoing projects like NYCHA tenant associations engagement and CFRs tabling outreach.
• Plan and execute borough-specific family events and other community-facing activities.
• Participate in legislative lobbying and organizing with CFR teams when needed.
• Attend internal and external meetings as organizational needs arise.
• Support Early Defense and Family Defense outreach efforts.
• Engage with elected officials and government agency representatives.
