About Community Solar
Community solar allows multiple customers to benefit from a shared solar project, making solar accessible to low-income residents, renters, and others facing barriers. Subscribers buy a "share" of the solar array, receiving electricity bill credits for their share of the system's generation. BEF is a registered Project Manager through the Oregon Community Solar Program.

This role supports the Sr. Program Manager, focusing on community engagement, stakeholder collaboration, and promoting program initiatives across Portland and Oregon. We seek individuals passionate about increasing renewable energy access for low-income and BIPOC communities. The successful candidate will work within our Renewables team on the Sunward Community Solar program, delivering benefits to underrepresented communities.

Primary Duties:
Community Engagement and Partnership Building
- Develop Relationships: Cultivate partnerships with local officials, community leaders, nonprofits, and stakeholders. Ensure initiatives are culturally sensitive and meet community needs.
- Inclusive Outreach: Design outreach strategies to reach diverse, underrepresented, BIPOC, and non-English speaking communities.
- Organize Community Solar Events: Plan workshops, informational sessions, and marketing events, handling logistics and coordination.
- Enhance Visibility: Represent the program publicly, support recruitment, and serve as a community liaison.
- Schedule Flexibility: Willing to work evenings or weekends (~30%) for outreach and relationship-building.
- Travel: Up to 20% within Oregon may be required.
Program Promotion
- Communication Planning: Develop outreach plans to meet program goals and support community wealth-building through renewable energy.
- Content Creation: Produce promotional materials and educational content.
- Awareness Campaigns: Design campaigns to raise community awareness about solar benefits.
- Social Media & Online Engagement: Manage digital platforms and engage online communities.
- Media Relations: Build media relationships, write press releases, and coordinate interviews.
- Subscriber Acquisition: Lead outreach and management of solar subscriptions, tracking leads and participation.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Strategy Development: Collaborate on community-aligned strategies with the Sr. Program Manager.
- Feedback Integration: Incorporate community feedback into program planning and activities.
Reporting and Documentation
- Maintain Records: Document engagement activities and stakeholder interactions.
- CRM Management: Manage stakeholder database aligned with BEF and Oregon Community Solar standards.
- Prepare Reports: Generate reports on engagement efforts and outcomes, assist with grant reporting.
- Data Collection: Ethically gather demographic data on populations served.
- Platform Management: Upload subscriber info and coordinate with the team to keep records updated.
Support Program Logistics
- Event Planning: Assist in scheduling and logistics for meetings and events.
- Material Preparation: Prepare agendas, minutes, informational packets, and outreach materials.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Environmental Studies, Public Relations, or related fields.
- Fluent in English and Spanish.
- 2-3 years of experience in community outreach, public engagement, or similar roles, preferably in non-profit or renewable energy sectors.
- Strong communication skills and ability to engage diverse communities.
- Ability to translate technical info effectively in English and Spanish.
- Organizational and project management skills.
- Passion for renewable energy and community development.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Stakeholder engagement, facilitation, cultural awareness, and a DEI-focused approach.
