Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a Senior Community Disaster Program Manager to lead and support teams of employees and volunteers in delivering comfort and care during disasters. This role focuses on building an engaged workforce and preparing communities to respond to emergencies within the assigned geographic area.

Job Overview

Senior Community Disaster Program Manager: guide, lead and support teams of employees and trained volunteers to deliver comfort and care in times of disaster. Responsibilities include building and sustaining an engaged workforce, and ensuring communities are ready to respond to disasters.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Empower Volunteers: Lead and manage a diverse volunteer team responsible for volunteer-led disaster cycle services programming in the assigned geographic area, or functional activities throughout the region. Functional activities include mass care, response, community preparedness, recovery, planning and readiness.
  2. Lead the Program: Oversee the successful implementation of disaster cycle services activities within the assigned geographic area, or specific functional activities within the region.
  3. Mission Capacity Building: Champion and drive the development of Disaster Leadership Volunteers, including volunteer partners, to meet specific responsibilities as part of disaster readiness, preparedness, response, and recovery. Develop and support disaster volunteers who are the primary workforce, representative of the communities they serve, both culturally and linguistically. Lead and empower a diverse team of volunteers and employees.
  4. Engage Community: Supervise efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners with specific functional expertise and assets to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies in the assigned geographic area.
  5. Manage in a Matrix: Build relationships and collaborate in the matrix management environment with internal partners, including employees and volunteers.
  6. Know Your Communities: Act as a regional Red Cross disaster subject matter expert to maximize Red Cross presence and community engagement and mobilization.
  7. Ready to Respond: Initiate, scale, coordinate and manage disaster relief operations in the region, or functional activities in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations.
Salary and Eligibility

The salary range for this position is (Ohio): $89,000.00 - $91,920.00

Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors may be used to determine actual salary, including skills, years of experience, and comparison to others in this role.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor\'s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of related experience.
  • Management Experience: 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Must have a valid driver\'s license & a clean MVR
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills to interpret program trends, results, formulate recommendations, and develop creative processes for continuous program or service improvements.
  • Proven record of collaboration with diverse groups and individuals representing all the demographics of the community, managing multiple priorities, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work outside of regular duty hours including nights and weekends.
Residency and Physical Requirements
  • Residency: Chapter-based positions require daily work in the assigned geographic area to engage and mobilize communities and support volunteers.
  • Regional positions require daily work within the region\'s geographic area to provide leadership and functional support, engage and mobilize communities, and support volunteers.
  • Physical requirements: See description for details; includes ability to sit, use hands, speak, lift up to 30 pounds, and work in a typical office environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to develop relationships with chapter leadership and disaster program managers.
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities.
  • Volunteer management experience is a plus.
  • Data-driven decision making; servant leadership; senior leadership experience.
