Job summary

AECOM seeks a Senior Communications Systems Design Engineer in Los Angeles to develop and review transportation sub-system designs, documents, and budgets. The role includes collaborating with clients, preparing system diagrams, and ensuring integration with BIM and CAD tools. Telecommuting is allowed up to two days weekly.

Requires a degree in Engineering and 8 years’ related experience, with NFPA 130/EN 50121 knowledge and strong partner-management skills.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical or Systems Engineering or related field; 8 years experience.
• Alternative: Master's in Civil Engineering with 6 years experience.
• Experience with rail and transit systems in North America.
• Experience in an Owner’s Engineer role.
• Proficiency in IP backbone networks and integrated communications systems.
• Familiarity with NFPA 130 and EN 50121.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Develop and review detailed communications sub-system designs for transportation systems.
• Produce system design deliverables: block diagrams, riser diagrams, network diagrams, equipment layouts, BOMs, radio/optical budgets.
• Lead vendor evaluations and support vendor selection.
• Lead technical interactions with clients, operators, and stakeholders.
• Provide value engineering to save costs and schedule.
• Travel up to 5% domestically and telecommute up to 2 days/week.
• Author test procedures and reports for design verification.

AECOM Technical Services, Inc. is seeking a Senior Communications Systems Design Engineer in Los Angeles,

• Develop and review detailed communications sub-system designs specific to transportation systems.
• Develop system-wide ductbank drawings in close coordination with the respective system disciplines.
• Assist and provide working information to CAD for BIM clash detection.
• Provide value engineering on communications systems-related issues, saving costs and schedule.
• Produce system design deliverables: block diagrams, riser diagrams, network diagrams, equipment layouts, cable schedules, bill of materials, and radio and optical link budgets.
• Generate design reports for all phases of system design.
• Author test procedures and reports in support of design verification and validation during the project life cycle.
• Support and participate in the systems implementation phase of projects, including installation, testing and commissioning, cutover, record drawings, and final reports.
• Author technical requirements and specifications, perform vendor bid evaluations, and support vendor selection.
• Participate in the Requirements Management effort.
• Support the management of System Interfaces and creation of Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
• Lead technical interactions with clients, operators, and other major stakeholders.
• Deliver technical training to client staff.
• Author project plan documents and support cost estimates, project schedules, and budgets.
• Perform technical review of other team members’ designs.
• Up to 5% domestic travel required.
• Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week.

Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field of study and8 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Design Engineer, Electrical Engineer, or in a related occupation.

Alternatively, the employer will accept a Master's degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field of study and 6 years of experience as a Systems Engineer, Design Engineer, Electrical
Engineer, or in a related occupation.

Position requires experience in the following:

• Experience with rail and transit systems in North America
• Experience in an Owner’s Engineer role
• Design of IP backbone networks
• Design of integrated communications systems, passenger information systems, and fire and life systems.
• BIM 360
• Participating in Interface Management, Testing & Commissioning, Cutover, and Operations and Maintenance
• Codes and standards applicable to rail projects, including NFPA 130, and EN 50121
• Operating within a multi-disciplinary project structure with responsibility for communications sub-systems design
• AutoCAD software
