Job summary

GovExec is seeking a strategic communications professional to support external visibility and executive positioning across the public sector ecosystem. This role works with leadership, marketing, editorial, events, research, and sales to amplify initiatives in government, technology, defense, and public sector markets.

Responsibilities include shaping narratives, managing media relationships, developing messaging, and coordinating speaking engagements and thought leadership opportunities.

Qualifications

• 4 to 7+ years in public relations or strategic communications.
• Experience supporting B2B, government/defense, or public sector organizations.
• Experience in media relations and executive communications.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience required.

Responsibilities

• Support execution of external communications and PR strategy across initiatives and events.
• Assist with executive positioning, media engagement, and thought leadership.
• Help develop messaging and narrative frameworks aligned to brand growth.
• Prepare executive talking points, presentations, and external appearances.
• Coordinate media interviews, speaking engagements, and awards submissions.
• Track earned media and overall communications performance.
