We are seeking a Senior Communications Specialist to provide Full-Time support to a NASA contract in Greenbelt, MD.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic, experienced communications leader with a passion for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to lead our strategic communications and engagement efforts. The Senior Communications Specialist will shape and amplify our organizational voice across multiple platforms, foster partnerships, and design initiatives that broaden participation and deepen public understanding of STEM.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the strategic optimization of processes that govern the planning, execution, and evaluation of Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC)-specific STEM programs and projects. Apply a continuous improvement lens to streamline workflows, enhance program delivery, and ensure the effective stewardship of organizational resources.
- Develop, oversee, and ensure the quality of technical communications related to GSFC STEM initiatives, including the preparation of high-impact content, technical editing, comprehensive document compilations, and the timely dissemination of materials to internal and external stakeholders.
- Drive cross-functional planning, coordination, and execution of complex technical and administrative engagement initiatives , including high-visibility meetings, workshops, briefings, and other mission-aligned events. Ensure alignment with Agency priorities and STEM engagement objectives.
- Leverage Agency-wide digital platforms, databases, virtual learning environments, and interactive simulations to design and deliver compelling STEM experiences. Engage and inspire K–12 students, educators, higher education institutions, and the public in GSFC missions and programs.
- Provide guidance and support for current and emerging GSFC STEM engagement initiatives , including the creation and development of new programmatic concepts, management of events and partnerships, and fulfillment of data calls and reporting requirements. Ensure all programs reflect and advance NASA’s goals for broadening participation and workforce pipeline development.
- Research requirements and develop and align programs with the various institution’s curricula to ensure maximum impact and success.
- Liaise with local school districts to ensure proper and successful execution of current and future Memorandums of Agreements between GSFC and the school districts. Regularly report to GSFC Center Management on the status and progress of these agreements.
Requirements:
- This role requires on-site support at Goddard Space Flight Center three days per week with two days flexible to work from home. Please note that in-office requirements are subject to change based on evolving customer needs.
- Solid working knowledge of NASA’s Gateway system, Canvas software, and Microsoft Office Suite,
- Extensive experience in science education, experiential learning, and in creating, developing, and managing projects.
- Expert level of knowledge in Learning Theory and the ability to apply it to program design.
- Must have excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills across formats and audiences at all levels.
- Must have the ability to balance multiple priorities and respond/produce quality work efficiently with short deadline actions in a fast-paced environment.
- The individual must also possess a strong sense of ethics, discretion, and professional sophistication.
- Ability to quickly and effectively communicate project status, issues, and new directives to customers, team, and leadership as they arise.
- Individual must meet government NAC and citizenship/permanent residency requirements for access to NASA GSFC. Extensive background investigation will be performed as a requirement of the job.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 8 or more years of professional experience or equivalent professional experience in related field in lieu of degree.
