Job summary

ROGERCO, Inc. is a full-time Senior Communications Specialist role supporting Naval Surface Warfare Center Code 103 Corporate Communications in Dahlgren, VA.

You will conceptualize and develop compelling material to tell cohesive client stories, editing for AP style and ensuring accuracy for internal and external audiences. You will lead editorial efforts, produce magazines, news releases, catalogs, and social media content, and provide photography support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, public affairs, or related degree OR a minimum six (6) years of related experience in editing documents in a military/engineering/technical environment
• US Citizen
• Active Secret Clearance
• Proven ability to support communication programs and products, media relations programs, events, and photography support
• Experience in research, conducting interviews, writing, editing, and obtaining release/approval for articles, features, news releases, and statements, including electronic, web, and print material
• Proficient in Newport Enterprise Realtime Development Server (NERDS) digital signage, Adobe Creative Cloud Production Premium, Microsoft Office Professional, AVS Video Converter, and screen capture software
• Knowledge of Section 508 compliance standards and AP Style
• Strong writer and copy editor
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibilities

Job description

ROGERCO, Inc. (ROGERCO) an integrated technology and communications company is seeking a full-time Senior Communications Specialist. The Senior Communications Specialist will play an integral role conceptualizing and developing compelling material – to help our clients tell impactful and cohesive stories. As a critical member of the creative team supporting the Naval Surface Warfare Center Code 103 Corporate Communications team in Dahlgren, VA., the Senior Communications Specialist will be required to develop and edit written products including magazine and news articles, press releases and fact sheets that clearly relay key messages, purposes and plans and adhere to requirements for internal and external audiences. The Senior Communications Specialist will also provide editorial guidance to subordinate organizations’ communications staff on written news articles in accordance with AP style guidelines. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with superior editorial and fact-checking skills. Candidates must have an active SECRET security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Task, lead, and collaborate with others to create original concepts that result in effective and compelling internal and external communication
• Write clear, concise, grammatically correct copy that is consistent with approved brand, voice and style

• Provide editorial expertise in producing catalogs, electronic newsletters and magazine-type publications
• Provide photography in support of articles and social media
• a clear understanding of social media support to include developing posts and understanding the impact of posts via a data drive evaluation
• Manage administrative requirements and requests for information
• Proactively create action plans to target the correct audience and use sound editorial judgment to determine where communication gaps exist and how to close them
• Perform final document quality assurance and quality control reviews on communication products prior to distribution to the public (e.g., press releases, informational brochures, briefings)
• Consult relevant information sources to obtain and verify background information
• Develop outlines and drafts that meet client requirements and regulations
• Edit copy to comply with in-house and AP style guides
• Perform other duties as required

• Experience in research, conducting interviews, writing, editing, and obtaining release/approval for articles, feature stories, news releases, and statements, including electronic, web based, and hard copy material
• Proficient in Newport Enterprise Realtime Development Server (NERDS) digital signage, Adobe Creative Cloud Production Premium, Microsoft Office Professional, AVS Video Converter, and screen capture software.
• Knowledge of Section 508 compliance standards and how to create products that adhere to these standards
