Job summary

Superior is seeking a Senior Commissioning Engineer to lead commissioning planning, startup, and energization for complex electrical systems across Central Ohio. The role requires at least 5 years of experience in quality control, testing and commissioning of electrical systems, with strong knowledge of medium/low voltage power distribution, including switchgear, UPS, generators, and redundantly fed power systems.

Knowledge of NFPA, NEC, NFPA 70E is essential.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of experience in quality control, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems.
• Strong understanding of medium and low voltage power distribution and related equipment.
• Familiarity with NFPA, NEC, NFPA 70E and applicable codes and standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and approval of complex methods of procedures (MOPs) documents.
• Oversee LOTO planning and energized work strategies.
• Lead pre-energization readiness reviews and support complex startup activities.
• Review and validate one-line diagrams, switching sequences, and system interdependencies.
• Identify and mitigate startup, energization, and system integration risks.
• Drive resolution of complex commissioning and technical issues.
• Lead technical coordination with owners, construction managers, manufacturers, distributors, and testing partners.
• Coordinate with Field Operations, Project Operations, and Engineering teams.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to Commissioning Engineers.

Description

Position: Senior Commissioning Engineer

Reports to: Commissioning Engineering Manager

Location: Central Ohio

Salary Range: $55.00 - $72.00 per hour (Eligible for Overtime)

Superior is looking for a Senior Commissioning Engineer who will lead commissioning planning, startup, and energization activities for complex electrical systems. The Senior Commissioning Engineer is responsible for developing and approving methods of procedure (MOPs), overseeing lockout/tagout (LOTO) planning, conducting pre-energization readiness reviews, and supporting safe system energization. This role serves as a key technical resource, coordinating with project teams and stakeholders while providing guidance on power distribution systems.

This role is based on a jobsite and supports projects across Central Ohio with jobsite assignment based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead development and approval of complex methods of procedures (MOPs) documents
• Oversee LOTO planning and energized work strategies
• Lead pre-energization readiness reviews and support complex startup activities

• Identify and mitigate startup, energization, and system integration risks

• Coordinate closely with Field Operations, Project Operations, and Engineering teams
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to Commissioning Engineers
• Support continuous improvement of QACx workflows and standards

Your Expertise

• Required: You have at least 5 years of experience in quality control, testing, and commissioning of electrical systems
• Required: You have strong technical understanding of medium and low voltage power distribution including Switchgears, UPS systems, Generators, and redundantly fed power systems
• Required: You have experience with NFPA, NEC, NFPA 70E and other applicable codes and standards
• Bonus Points: You have a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• Bonus Points: You have are proficient in construction management software such as CX Alloy, Procore, ACC, and BIM 360
