Job summary

GEE Group Columbus, Ohio Office is seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Engineer to lead mechanical commissioning programs from early test script development through final reporting and handoff. You will directly manage a team of three to four commissioning engineers and serve as the primary liaison for project stakeholders.

The role requires ensuring all mechanical infrastructure meets Owner’s Project Requirements, Sequence of Operations, and established commissioning standards before facility

Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on commissioning, startup, or design experience in mission-critical or large industrial environments.
• Experience supervising or mentoring a small team of engineers in field environments.
• Deep understanding of industrial HVAC, central plants, psychrometrics, control logic loops, and IST.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or recognized certification (CxA, CCP, BCxP) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end mechanical commissioning programs ensuring compliance with OPR and design intent.
• Directly manage, mentor, and schedule three to four commissioning engineers on assigned projects.
• Author, review, and finalize technical FPT scripts and Level 1-5 commissioning documentation.
• Validate system responses against the Sequence of Operations and troubleshoot BAS integration gaps.
• Audit field testing activities, ensure adherence to standards, and sign off on final completion reports.
• Act as technical liaison between clients, GC contractors, and design engineers to resolve bottlenecks.

Job description

The Mechanical Commissioning Engineer serves as the program lead for complex facility startup operations, driving projects completely from early test script development through final reporting and handoff.

This position brings strong leadership to the field, directly managing a team of three to four commissioning engineers while acting as the primary point of contact for project stakeholders. The Lead Engineer ensures that all mechanical infrastructure systems are meticulously verified against the Owner’s Project Requirements, the Sequence of Operations, and establish commissioning standards prior to facility turnover.

Key Responsibilities

• Program Leadership: Lead the end-to-end execution of mechanical commissioning programs, guaranteeing strict compliance with OPR and design intent.
• Team Management: Directly manage, mentor, and schedule three to four junior-to-mid-level commissioning engineers across assigned projects.
• Script Development: Author, review, and finalize highly technical functional performance test (FPT) scripts and Level 1-5 commissioning documentation.
• Sequence Verification: Validate system responses against the designated Sequence of Operations (SOO), troubleshooting complex Building Automation System (BAS) integration gaps.
• Quality Assurance: Audit field testing activities, ensure adherence to standards, and sign off on final system completion reports.
• Stakeholder Management: Act as the technical liaison between clients, general contractors, and design engineers to resolve critical engineering bottlenecks.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: 7+ years of hands-on commissioning, startup, or design experience, specifically within mission-critical or large industrial environments.
• Leadership: Demonstrated experience supervising or mentoring a small team of technical engineers in field environments.
• Expertise: Deep understanding of industrial HVAC, central plants, psychrometrics, control logic loops, and integrated system testing (IST).
