Job summary

Command Commissioning, LLC is seeking a Commissioning Specialist to execute building commissioning across the full project lifecycle from design review to turnover. You will ensure systems meet OPR and design intent, coordinating with contractors and owners while maintaining rigorous documentation.

Ideal candidates have 3–8 years in commissioning, strong reporting skills, and relevant certifications (CCP/CxA/BCxP/PE/EIT/LEED AP).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 3–8 years of experience in commissioning, building systems engineering, design, construction, or facility operations.
  • Certifications: CCP; CxA; BCxP; PE or EIT; LEED AP or similar sustainability credential.
  • Working knowledge of building systems including HVAC, controls/BAS, electrical distribution, and hydronic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of commissioning scopes and assist in preparing fee estimates for complex projects.
  • Prepare commissioning documentation including Commissioning Plans, pre-functional checklists, and system verification tools.
  • Develop Functional Test Procedures (FTPs) for mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and control systems with appropriate technical oversight.
  • Conduct site visits to witness system startups, testing activities, and performance verification.
  • Identify deficiencies and generate detailed punchlists tied to measurable performance outcomes.
  • Track issue resolution and validate corrective actions through re-testing when required.
  • Maintain accurate, organized commissioning records throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Compile and issue interim and final commissioning reports that clearly communicate system performance and outstanding risks.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with project specifications, firm standards, and industry guidelines (e.g., ASHRAE, BCxA).
  • Coordinate commissioning activities with contractors, design engineers, controls vendors, and ownership representatives.
  • Facilitate commissioning meetings and support scheduling of testing events.
  • Communicate project risks, delays, or scope changes promptly to internal leadership.
  • Monitor assigned project budgets relative to commissioning scope.
  • Recognize scope creep and notify leadership when additional services or contract modifications may be warranted.
  • Support lessons-learned reviews to improve future project execution.

Description

The Commissioning Specialist is responsible for executing building commissioning services across the full project lifecycle—from design review through functional testing and final turnover. This role ensures that building systems operate according to the Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), design intent, and applicable industry standards. As an individual contributor, the Commissioning Specialist must operate with a high degree of technical competence, organizational discipline, and professional judgment. Success in this role requires balancing field execution, documentation rigor, and proactive communication with project stakeholders.

Responsibilities
Project Execution

Skills, Experience and Professional Credentials
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 3–8 years of experience in commissioning, building systems engineering, design, construction, or facility operations.
  • Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP); Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA); Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP); Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT); LEED AP or similar sustainability credential.
  • Working knowledge of building systems including HVAC, controls/BAS, electrical distribution, and hydronic systems.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities.
  • Clear written communication, particularly in technical reports.
  • Organized approach to managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work both independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
