Job summary

M&T Bank Corporation in Buffalo, NY seeks a senior professional to manage a Problem Commercial C&I or CRE loan portfolio, overseeing restructurings, forbearance, and potential liquidations. You will coordinate with counsel, QA, and other departments while ensuring risk controls and regulatory compliance.

The role requires 7+ years of workout experience on complex credits or 11+ years total with a turnaround focus, plus a Bachelor’s in finance, accounting, or business (MBA preferred).

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and minimum 7 years’ workout experience on the most complex commercial credits, or 11 years of combined education and work experience in related roles.
• Knowledge of Commercial Insolvency, including Bankruptcy Court proceedings.
• Strong credit and analytical skills.
• Detail-oriented; proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word).
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Analyze borrowers’ and guarantors’ financial statements and 13 week cash flows to measure performance and monitor covenants.
• Inform Credit Quality Assurance of changes affecting PD ratings or potential charge-offs.
• Work with counsel in bankruptcy or court proceedings during oversight of a relationship.
• Collaborate with other departments, financial institutions, insurers, turnaround consultants and vendors for portfolio information.
• Represent the Bank in civic and community activities.
• Adhere to compliance and risk controls and promote the M&T Bank brand.
• Provide recommendations on restructuring or orderly exit strategies and feedback to supervisors.
• Mentor and lead junior staff.
