Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual Insurance is America’s oldest insurer serving lumber and building materials. We seek a Senior Commercial Lines Underwriter to collaborate with field reps, assess risk, quote subject-to terms, and manage renewals with a focus on profitability.

The role emphasizes risk evaluation, data review (D&B, MVRs), and coordination with brokers to achieve target pricing while adhering to company policies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management and Insurance; or equivalent relevant experience.
• 6+ years demonstrated multi-line underwriting experience in a similar environment.
• Professional designation CPCU or equivalent (ARM, CIC, AU) preferred.
• Understanding of underwriting processes for risks and policy forms.
• Ability to analyze financial stability and liquidity of clients.
• Knowledge of commercial rating techniques and reinsurance concepts.

Responsabilités

• Review applications for class acceptability, completeness, and risk acceptability.
• Evaluate classification for accuracy and review financial statements or Dunn & Bradstreet as needed.
• Coordinate pricing with broker and Field Representative and obtain commitment on placement.
• Develop underwriting information and quotations, including subject-to terms when needed.
• Refer risks exceeding authority to the Underwriting Manager with recommended actions.
• Process quotations by broker’s need-by date and manage diary follow-ups.
• Review renewals for complete information and determine renewal pricing and terms.
• Process endorsements within 10 days of receipt and manage special issues (MVRs, loss information).
