RELI Group in Windsor Mill, MD is seeking a Senior Coder to perform intake and coding validation of medical records and enter data into CMS tools per RADV guidelines. The role supports the Project Director with additional responsibilities.

Required is a certified coder with extensive experience coding hospital records and a strong ability to work independently while maintaining strict confidentiality and high accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Experience coding general acute hospital records (inpatient/outpatient) using ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM guidelines.
  • Certified coder credentialed by a recognized credentialing institution.

Responsibilities

  • Code inpatient, outpatient, and physician office records per RADV guidelines.
  • Evaluate intake validity, attestations, non-compliance issues, and other RADV checks.
  • Review medical record disputes and appeals with technical writing per RADV guidelines.
  • Provide RADV subject matter expert support to CMS as needed.
  • Participate in QA panels and interact with physician reviewers as required.
  • Enter data into encoder, CDAT-M, and other software accurately.
  • Maintain confidentiality of PHI and meet productivity/attendance standards.

Summary/Objective

Perform intake and coding validation on medical records and enter the corresponding data into CMS tool in accordance with contractual and organizational guidelines. Assist Project Director with any additional responsibilities requested.

Essential Functions
  • Perform diagnosis coding of inpatient, outpatient, and physician office medical records per Risk Adjustment Data Validation (RADV) guidelines.
  • Perform intake evaluation include validity status of medical records and attestations, non-compliance issues, and other validations checks as required per RADV guidelines.
  • Perform Medical Record Dispute and Appeal reviews including technical writing per RADV guidelines.
  • Provide Appeals support as RADV Subject Matter Expert at CMS request.
  • Participate and contribute to QA Panel discussions for medical record review intake/coding and appeals, as needed.
  • Interact with the physician reviewer(s) as required.
  • Answer questions from coders through the escalation process.
  • Accurately enter data into encoder, CDAT-M, and other as required software using a personal computer, keyboard and/or mouse.
  • Follow all established processes and procedures.
  • Report problems to Project Director with regard to unique record or process issues.
  • Maintain security and confidentiality of medical records and Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Consistently meet or exceed productivity and accuracy standards of 95% minimum IRR established by the customer and/or the company.
  • Consistently meet attendance standards established by the Company.
  • Interact appropriately with peers, co-workers, other Contractors, and the customer, when necessary.
  • Contribute to building a positive team spirit.
  • Assist Project Director with development of training materials.
  • Assist with training and feedback of coders.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
QualificationsRequired Education and Experience

Experience in coding general acute hospital (inpatient and outpatient) and/or multi-specialty physician office medical records by applying ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM coding guidelines. Experience in performing medical record coding audits including complex medical record abstraction. Must be a certified coder who is credentialed by a recognized credentialing institution.

Preferred Education and Experience

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in coding general acute hospital (inpatient and outpatient) and/or multi-specialty physician office medical records by applying ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM coding guidelines. Experience in leading and/or supervising personnel in abstracting and ICD-9/ICD-10 coding preferred. Experience in Risk Adjustment Data Validation or CMS-HCC audits preferred.

The annual salary range for this position is $60,000 to $65,000. Actual compensation will depend on a range of factors, including but not limited to the individual's skills, experience, qualifications, certifications, location, other business and organizational needs, and applicable employment laws.
