Job summary

Office of Public Response in Sacramento seeks a Senior Code Enforcement Officer to lead and coordinate staff responsible for nuisance abatement, blight control, and other hazard mitigation, ensuring compliance with state and local codes.

You will plan, schedule, and oversee enforcement activities across zoning, vehicle abatement, and building inspections, applying policy and procedures to protect public health and safety.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time, paid experience as Code Enforcement Officer in Sacramento County
• One year of public-sector experience in zoning enforcement or related activities with college coursework
• Three years of full-time, paid public-sector experience in zoning enforcement or related activities

Responsibilities

• Lead, plan, and oversee staff to ensure code compliance and nuisance abatement.
• Coordinate enforcement of zoning, vehicle abatement, and building inspection activities.
• Ensure tasks are completed following established policies and procedures

Job description

Under general supervision, the Senior Code Enforcement Officer leads, plans, schedules, and oversees the work of staff responsible for ensuring compliance with and enforcement of State and local codes pertaining to nuisance abatement, blight control, substandard housing, zoning, abandoned vehicles, overgrown vegetation, vector infestations, and other hazardous conditions; ensures completion of tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Either:

1. 1. Two years of full-time, paid experience employed by the County of Sacramento in the class of Code Enforcement Officer.

Or:

1. 2a. One year of full-time, paid experience in the public sector performing difficult, sensitive, and technical zoning enforcement, vehicle abatement, building inspection, environmental health inspection, code enforcement or related activities;
2. And 2b. Successful completion of 60 semester (90 quarter) units from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 semester (27 quarter) units in criminal justice; law enforcement; public/business administration, construction; planning; or other closely related field.

Or:

1. 3. Three years of full-time, paid experience in the public sector performing difficult, sensitive, and technical zoning enforcement, vehicle abatement, building inspection, environmental health inspection, code enforcement or related activities.
