Job summary

The City of El Monte is seeking an advanced journey-level Code Enforcement Officer to lead a team in enforcing municipal, zoning, housing, and signage codes. You will supervise staff, plan daily operations, and coordinate enforcement actions with several city departments.

Responsibilities include inspections, complaint investigations, issuing citations, and engaging residents and businesses to achieve voluntary compliance while upholding safety and quality of life standards.

Qualifications

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; some college coursework or technical training in code compliance.
• Four years of municipal code and zoning compliance experience.
• Possession of a valid California Driver's License and related certifications is typical.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical and functional supervision to assigned code enforcement staff.
• Plan, schedule, and manage daily code compliance operations.
• Inspect and investigate violations of municipal, zoning, housing, and related codes.
• Issue notices, citations, and coordinate abatement with other departments.
• Engage with the public to explain codes and encourage voluntary compliance.
