Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a skilled mainframe software developer to design, build, and maintain COBOL/JCL/ISPF applications on MVS/OS 390. The role focuses on EFT settlement and transaction processing within the financial sector.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in related fields, strong debugging and problem-solving skills, and familiarity with scheduling tools like ESP/CA7. A master’s or bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in a related field plus experience requirement.
• Development experience in COBOL, JCL, ISPF is required.
• MVS/OS 390 batch application development experience is required.
• Experience with ESP, CA7 or another scheduling software is required.
• Experience with FILE-AID and Connex/Advantage is required.
• Experience with a Settlement/Reporting application in the Financial sector.
• Ability to solve complex software development/design issues.
• Ability to write clean, coherent code following guidelines.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Knowledge of EFT settlement and transaction processing.
• AI and LLM knowledge is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to interpret requirements and feed back into designs.
• Translate business requirements and verify assumptions with stakeholders.
• Contribute to project estimation and flag potential delays.
• Develop, implement, and maintain code per standards and best practices.
• Use debugging tools to verify assumptions and flag issues early.
• Participate in code reviews to ensure coding standards.
• Manage end-to-end lifecycle of enhancements with cross-functional teams.
• Leverage developer tools to create, debug, and maintain code.
• Prepare technical documents, build environments, and implementation plans.
• Identify opportunities for future enhancements and refinement of standards.
