Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Technical training in shop math, blueprint reading and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GDT) is required.
• Minimum of 10 years of trade school apprenticeship or equivalent shop experience as a machinist is required.

Responsibilities

• Works from drawings, sketches and specifications to complete machining operations.
• Performs machine set ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.
• Obtains inspections on first pieces and performs inspections on work-in-progress.
• Maintains records of time, part counts, first piece inspections, and requisition forms.
• Makes jigs, fixtures or other specialized non-production devices as required.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area and adheres to quality procedures and standards.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance of machines per PM schedule.
• Troubleshoots drawings, tooling, and machining issues and makes informed decisions.

Usually highest level for production machining operations. Usually skilled at operating two, three or more CNC lathes and/or mills and special types of machine tools. Performs diversified machining operations largely on standard work having tolerance and finish specifications requiring a general knowledge of machining practices and techniques.
