Job summary

Dover Precision Components in Houston, TX, is seeking a fully seasoned CNC Machinist to perform complex machining operations on multiple lathes and mills. This on-site role requires reading drawings, setting up machines, and achieving tight tolerances.

With 10+ years of shop experience and training in shop math, blueprint reading, and GDT, you will lead setup and inspection activities, train others, and maintain equipment in a safe, clean 5S-compliant environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Technical training in shop math, blueprint reading and GDT.
• Minimum of 10 years of trade school apprenticeship or equivalent shop experience as a machinist.

Responsibilities

• Works from drawings and specifications to perform various machining operations.
• Performs machine set ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.
• Obtains inspections on first pieces and performs inspections on work-in-progress with measuring devices.
• Maintains records of time, part counts, first piece inspections, and requisition forms.
• Makes jigs, fixtures or other specialized non-production devices as assigned.
• Acquires raw material, supplies, tools, etc. when necessary; keeps area clean and follows quality procedures.

Usually highest level for production machining operations. Usually skilled at operating two, three or more CNC lathes and/or mills and special types of machine tools. Performs diversified machining operations largely on standard work having tolerance and finish specifications requiring a general knowledge of machining practices and techniques. This position must have the ability to perform the following: **Responsibilities:** * Works from drawings, sketches and specifications in completing various machining operations.* Performs machine set ups to obtain close tolerances, fitting and alignment of machined parts.* Obtains required inspections on first pieces of a run according to prescribed procedure and performs inspections on work-in-progress using a wide variety of measuring devices.* Completes and maintains all necessary records of time, part counts, first piece inspections, and requisition forms, etc. for each job.* Makes jigs, fixtures or other specialized non-production devices as qualified and assigned.* Acquires raw material, supplies, tools, etc. when necessary.* Maintains a clean orderly work area, works safely, and conforms to all quality procedures and standards.* Performs first piece inspections on basic product for other machinists, as qualified and assigned.* Grinds tools when necessary.* Performs routine preventative maintenance of machines according to PM schedule.* Trouble shoots drawings, machining, tooling, programming, material, etc. and making competent decisions pertaining to job at hand.* Utilizes Geometric Dimension & Tolerance as called out on print.* Gives feedback on trends, and recommending process improvements.* Independently programs machines.* Maintains and monitors machine shop equipment.
