Job summary

Professional Placement Services seeks an experienced Quality Inspector IV/CMM Programmer to translate complex drawings into precise CMM programs and ensure components meet exact specifications. Required are expert GD&T, advanced CMM programming, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to review inspection results and drive corrective actions with Engineering and Manufacturing.

Candidates should have 10+ years in manufacturing, 5+ years in CMM programming, a CWI certification, and ASQ

Qualifications

  • Expert-level understanding and application of GD&T.
  • Advanced CMM programming and mechanical inspection experience.
  • Ability to determine the most effective inspection method regardless of part geometry or complexity.
  • Expert reading and interpretation of blueprints, production instructions, specifications, BOMs, schematics, weld symbols, and inspection requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of machining standards and secondary processes, including painting, powder coating, and plating.
  • Experience calculating flat patterns and inspecting precision sheet-metal components.
  • Expert proficiency with precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and other handheld inspection tools.
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, organizational, and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, database software, and computer-based inspection systems.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, validate, and maintain CMM programs for complex machined and fabricated components, assemblies, and enclosures.
  • Perform first-piece, first-article, incoming, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Review and approve inspection results before production begins.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, specifications, travelers, BOMs, solid models, and related technical documentation.
  • Identify discrepancies between solid models and engineering drawings and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Generate detailed inspection reports and statistical quality data, including SPC and CPK reports.
  • Develop CMM reporting platforms and customized report formats.
  • Audit quality-control processes and inspection programs for compliance with internal and customer standards.
  • Support internal and external source inspections.
  • Perform reverse engineering by converting physical products into usable electronic data for engineering and manufacturing.
  • Participate in New Product Introduction (NPI) activities to evaluate inspection methods, drawing accuracy, tooling requirements, and potential failure points.
  • Develop inspection techniques, work instructions, and supporting materials for Level I, II, and III inspectors.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, suppliers, and customers to resolve quality-related issues.
  • Recommend opportunities to improve inspection methods and manufacturing processes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
