Job summary

NIRA, INC. seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to support FAA modernization efforts in Washington, DC. You will collaborate with government managers and engineers to design, deploy, and optimize cloud and network solutions.

The role emphasizes hands-on AWS infrastructure (VPC, EC2, IAM, S3, CloudFront, CloudFormation) and IaC with Terraform or CloudFormation, plus security and FedRAMP alignment. Hybrid work model with on-site presence in Washington, DC, and close coordination with federal customers

Qualifications

• BS/MS degree in a related technical subject.
• 11+ years of experience in Systems Engineering or similar roles.
• 5+ years of experience with AWS.
• Hands-on with AWS networking, IAM policies, security groups, and VPC peering.
• Experience with containers (ECS, EKS, Docker) and serverless (Lambda).
• Knowledge of API metadata standards (OpenAPI) and API management platforms.
• Understanding of SOA and related governance.
• Experience with Enterprise Service Bus (ESB).
• Strong scripting using Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
• Excellent communication across diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Migrate and design AWS infrastructure for FAA mission systems.
• Implement IaC using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Coordinate with FAA program office and cloud vendors.
• Configure monitoring with CloudWatch, CloudTrail, CloudConfig.
• Support config control boards and production env management.
• Develop cost estimates and AWS cost optimization models.
• Provide technical analysis to federal contracting teams.
