Job summary

Fireworks is seeking a Software Engineer for its Cloud Infrastructure team to architect and build foundational systems powering its AI platform. You will design scalable backend services, optimize compute, storage, and networks, and drive reliability across multi-cloud environments.

You will collaborate with ML, DevOps, and product teams to translate research into robust infrastructure, mentor engineers, and adopt cloud-native tooling to advance performance and cost-efficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a technical field.
• 5+ years designing and building backend infrastructure in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Proven experience in ML infrastructure and tooling (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Kubernetes).
• Strong software development skills in Python or C++.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems Fundamentals: scheduling, orchestration, storage, networking, compute optimization.

Responsibilities

• Architect and build scalable, resilient backend infrastructure for distributed training, inference, and data processing pipelines.
• Lead technical design discussions, mentor engineers, and establish best practices for large-scale ML infrastructure.
• Design and implement core backend services (job schedulers, resource managers, autoscalers, model serving) with low latency.
• Drive compute cost reduction, storage lifecycle management, and network performance tuning.
• Collaborate with ML, DevOps, and product teams to translate research and product needs into infrastructure solutions.
• Evaluate and integrate cloud-native/open-source technologies (Kubernetes, Kubeflow, MLFlow) to enhance platform reliability.
• Own end-to-end systems from design to deployment and observability with emphasis on reliability.
