Job summary

The Judge Group is seeking a Senior Software Engineer in Chicago, IL to help build and modernize cloud-native platforms used by millions of users. You will design, implement, and operate APIs and backend services with Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot, collaborating with product owners and stakeholders.

You’ll contribute to architecture, scale, and performance, participate in Agile ceremonies, and mentor junior engineers. This hybrid role requires about one day onsite weekly in downtown Chicago.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• 4+ years of software engineering experience in production environments.
• Strong experience with Kotlin, Java, Spring Boot, or comparable object-oriented programming technologies.
• Deep understanding of API design, integration patterns, and microservices architecture.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-quality applications using Kotlin, Java, and Spring Boot.
• Build and enhance RESTful APIs and microservices that power large-scale integration platforms.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather requirements and translate complex problems into scalable technical solutions.
• Develop customer-facing functionality and user experiences, including front-end solutions using React when applicable.
• Build, deploy, and support applications running within cloud-native environments and Kubernetes ecosystems.
• Investigate and resolve production issues while maintaining system reliability and performance.
• Contribute to architecture discussions, scalability improvements, and platform modernization efforts.
• Work closely with product owners to refine requirements, decompose work into actionable tasks, and support junior engineers.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and help drive continuous improvement across development practices.
• Leverage technologies including AWS, Snowflake, SQL databases, Terraform, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
