Job summary

Oracle is seeking a software engineer to design, develop, test, and operate components for a scalable distributed systems platform in Nashville. You will collaborate with teams to evolve architecture, review code, and build services that run reliably in production.

Minimum qualifications include 8 years of software development experience (or relevant degrees with shown experience), strong Java, data structures, and cloud experience.

Qualifications

• 8 years of software development experience; or a bachelor’s degree with 4 years of software development experience; or a master’s degree with 2 years; or a doctorate in a relevant field.
• Relevant fields include Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Information Systems, Information Technology, Telecommunications, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
• 2 years of professional experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or OCI.
• 3 years of experience in testing and automation at the system level.
• 2 years of experience delivering and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Java and knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals.
• Strong troubleshooting and performance tuning skills; diagnosing issues and improving system efficiency.
• Experience developing, testing, and integrating secure REST APIs and services; knowledge of modern web app development.
• Proficiency across the software development lifecycle, including source control, code reviews, and prototyping to validate solutions.
• Ability to assess security vulnerabilities and collaborate across teams to deliver and improve software.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement assigned features and components with independent judgment and minimal supervision.
• Improve scalability and data processing performance; review peer implementations.
• Build fault-tolerant components using replication, failover, retries, circuit breakers, and timeouts; run tests.
• Develop dashboards, alerts, telemetry, and runbooks; participate in operational support rotations.
• Maintain troubleshooting tools and infrastructure automation; apply encryption and access controls; address security vulnerabilities.
• Collaborate across teams and share knowledge; handle complex issues when needed.
