Ideal candidates have 5+ years closing multifamily affordable housing deals (JD preferred with 3+ years). Strong drafting, negotiation, and leadership skills are essential for coordinating internal and external teams.
Job Description:
As the Senior Closing Manager, you are primarily responsible for closing complex LIHTC real estate transactions as well as supporting and advising the Development team on closing-related processes and deliverables.
Review, negotiate and approve development-related legal documents, identifying and resolving issues, ensuring consistency and minimizing legal risk to the organization.
Act as a closing subject matter expert, advising the development team on the appropriate course of action on matters involving LIHTC application requirements, HUD, authority, financing requirements, title and survey issues, closing deliverables, and other development-related questions.
Provide direction to the closing team, assisting Closing Managers/Paralegals with questions and document review.
Draft legal documents, including but not limited to agreements, amendments, purchase agreements, entity related documents, resolutions, letters and consents.
Lead the financial closing process for complex real estate closings, including but not limited to affordable multifamily acquisitions, LIHTC new construction/substantial rehabilitation, market rate development, land acquisitions, loan conversions and final endorsements.
Assign tasks to originations, preconstruction, development paralegal and development attorney to facilitate closing timelines, strategize the best path to closing and drive the closing process with internal and external partners and outside counsel to achieve timely, efficient and accurate closings.
Monitor the work of outside counsel to ensure the interests of the organization are protected and risk is minimized.
Approve legal invoices in Legal Tracker to ensure accurate billing.
Promote and participate as an active and supportive member of the National Church Residences Development team.
Demonstrates and maintains a collaborative, professional manner.
Manages time efficiently and effectively.
Provides leadership as a role model to promote a team approach, collaborates and participates in policy creation and appropriate problem-solving methods.
With respect to Resident Rights, ensures all care is provided with respect and dignity for the residents/clients, their families and the staff.
Reports all complaints made by residents/clients and/or families to the appropriate supervisors, reports all allegations of abuse, misappropriation of funds/resident property and/or any other corporate compliance, drug free workplace, safe work practices, all federal, state and local regulations and laws.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Paralegal Certificate required with a minimum of 5 years of experience closing multifamily affordable housing real estate transactions.
Juris Doctor (J.D.) preferred with a minimum of 3 years of experience closing multifamily affordable housing real estate transactions.
Must have good working computer skills with basic professional computer software (Microsoft Office suite, Windows, etc.) and the capacity for learning new software systems quickly.
Must have excellent communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills.
Must have the ability to speak, read, write and understand English, as well as the ability to make self‑understood.
Must be self‑directed with excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage tasks and assignments concurrently.
Must be able to successfully lead others in an environment of complexity.
Must have strong motivational skills and a high emotional intelligence quotient (EQ).
Minimal, 2-4 times per year for conferences and/or organizational events.
Must be a registered attorney or paralegal in good standing.
This Hybrid role works at our Central Ohio office Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, then at home on Mondays and Fridays.
