Description

The Forensic Mental Health Clinician/Court Evaluator is responsible for capturing the crossover between mental health treatment, civil legal matters, and the regulation of involuntary mental health treatment. Court Evaluators provide forensic expertise regarding mental health treatment encompassing understanding and appraisal of mental health laws and their impact on the delivery of care to persons with mental illnesses. Court Evaluators receive specialized training in the procedures and processes of the legal system and in the administration of mental health services for individuals deemed to be a danger to self, danger to others and/or gravely disability. Court Evaluators are responsible to complete clinical assessments, navigate DSM diagnostic criteria and treatment modalities, pharmacological approaches, medical complexities, and legal parameters while navigating the Washington Involuntary Treatment Act (ITA). Court Evaluators must have a working knowledge of RCW 71.05, RCW 71.34, and the WAC. Court Evaluator services shall include, but are not limited to, conducting clinical evaluations of identified ITA patients, preparing the appropriate legal petition/s for ITA patients approaching 14/90/180-day hearings, represent Providence Swedish in all ITA legal proceedings as an expert and credible witness when patients meet statute requirements, documenting in the appropriate electronic medical record (EMR), processing court orders and other related paperwork, as needed. Duties also include educating and guiding staff across disciplines to assist with navigating ITA laws and regulations, liaising with Snohomish/King County ITA Stakeholders and engaging with treatment team members for care planning, court preparation and alternative treatment measures.

Required qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Social Work or Counseling from an accredited school --or--
  • Ph.D. in Social Work or Psychology from an accredited school

  • Washington Mental Health Counselor License --or--
  • Upon hire: Washington Clinical Independent Social Worker License --or--
  • Upon hire: Washington Psychologist License
  • 2 years of experience in the areas of acute mental healthcare in an inpatient, outpatient or legal setting
