Job summary

UC Irvine Health seeks a Clinical Documentation Specialist to improve quality and accuracy of medical record documentation through auditing and evaluation. You will solicit clarification from physicians, educate staff on documentation guidelines and generate data-driven reports to support appropriate reimbursement.

Ideal candidates have RN with BSN or medical school background, 5+ years CDI experience, and familiarity with EPIC and CMS requirements. This is a full-time on-site role in California.

Qualifications

• RN with BSN or physician training and 5+ years clinical experience with CDI
• Minimum 3 years CDI experience
• Knowledge of coding guidelines and Joint Commission requirements
• Excellent written and verbal English communication
• Able to coordinate with physicians and staff

Responsibilities

• Facilitates improvement in the overall quality, completeness and accuracy of medical record documentation through comprehensive auditing and evaluation of the medical record.
• Solicits clarification from physicians and other healthcare providers when further specificity is needed to ensure accurate quality data and appropriate reimbursement.
• Educates others on documentation guidelines on an ongoing basis.
• Collects and analyzes data to provide reports and make recommendations.
