Job description

Attention Comms is an award-winning, independent communications agency that helps organizations earn their unfair share of attention. In 2026, PRovoke Media named us one of the three Best New Agencies in North America.

We believe Attention is what the next generation of agencies looks like, and we want people who are excited to help shape it. AI, media fragmentation, and declining trust have changed how influence works, and organizations can no longer count on attention finding them. We're looking for a senior leader who finds that exciting, who has real opinions about where communications is headed, and who wants to help our clients and our industry get there first.

You'll be a trusted strategic counselor to senior executives, lead client relationships and teams, and take ownership of the quality and impact of our work. Strong earned media skills and relationships are essential, but so is the ability to think beyond traditional PR, bringing together the right mix of social, influencer, search, and AI discovery to achieve clients' goals. We're looking for someone who's equally comfortable setting strategy and rolling up their sleeves to deliver it, and who wants to help shape where Attention goes next.

What you'll do
  • Act as the senior counselor to clients, advising leaders from the C-suite down on communications strategy
  • Set the creative and strategic direction for client programs and proposals, and make sure the work is measurable and good enough to win awards
  • Lead through issues and crises with calm judgment
  • Own quality across your accounts, including presentations, content, and final review before anything reaches a client
  • Protect each client's brand and tone inside the agency
  • Find ways to grow client relationships through new scopes of work and more ambitious programs
  • Keep improving how we measure and report results
Media and omnichannel strategy
  • Build and maintain relationships with reporters, producers, and editors across business, trade, and consumer outlets
  • Know how today's multiplatform newsrooms and key commentators operate, and coach your team to pitch accordingly
  • Develop communications strategies that draw on earned media, social, influencer, search, and AI discovery, choosing the right channels and approaches to achieve each client's goals.
  • Bring in the right specialists and lead integrated programs, keeping every channel focused on the client's goals
  • Tie results to measurable outcomes for clients
Team leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop account teams, setting clear priorities, maintaining high standards, and ensuring programs are delivered effectively, on time, and profitably.
  • Lead brainstorms for clients and for the agency
  • Help shape team structure, training, and hiring as we grow
Building what's next
  • Bring a clear point of view on where communications is headed, including AI, platform shifts, and how audiences find and trust information
  • Help develop and test new services, business models, and ways of working
  • Bring outside ideas back to the agency from your network of industry peers and experts
Growth and new business
  • Lead or contribute to pitches, from strategy and creative through the final presentation
  • Build a professional profile that also raises Attention's, through bylines, podcasts, panels, awards, and regular LinkedIn content
  • Grow your network across media, business, and the purpose community
Commercial ownership
  • Run your accounts profitably, with accurate scoping, forecasting, and budget tracking
  • Monitor time and spend so each team's structure fits both client outcomes and agency margins
What you bring
  • 7-10 years in PR and communications, with agency experience at a senior level
  • A track record of landing meaningful coverage, and relationships with journalists who take your calls
  • Experience leading programs that pair earned media with other channels, in partnership with specialists
  • Experience as the lead client relationship on complex accounts
  • A hands-on, ego-free approach. Equally comfortable advising a CEO, pitching a reporter, or sitting with a junior colleague to improve their work. Nothing too senior or too junior.
  • Comfort owning account budgets and profitability
  • Strong writing and editing skills and sharp judgment on what's newsworthy
  • Curiosity about what's next, and a history of trying new approaches before they became standard
  • Experience communicating purpose for nonprofits, foundations, B Corps, impact investors, or mission-driven brands
  • Sustainability, climate, or clean energy communications experience
  • Familiarity with GEO or AI discovery
  • New business wins you led or helped lead
