Job summary

Brightsmith seeks a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to own projects from early design through construction. You will lead site civil design, then design foundations, dynamic machine supports, and assess geotechnical implications for heavy energy and industrial facilities.

You will also build estimates from ROM to bid-grade pricing, develop takeoffs, manage field coordination, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and controls teams.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• 10+ years civil/structural engineering experience in power/heavy industrial or heavy civil construction.
• Active PE license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• Experience as lead civil engineer or Engineer of Record on plant-scale projects.
• Strong foundation design experience for heavy equipment and dynamic loading.
• Proficient in Civil 3D, RISA/STAAD/SAP2000, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Lead site civil design including grading, drainage, mass excavation, roads, utilities and stormwater systems.
• Design foundations for turbines, generators, transformers, tanks, pipe racks and other heavy equipment.
• Design dynamic machine foundations, structural steel, equipment platforms and temporary works.
• Translate geotechnical reports into practical foundation and construction criteria.
• Develop civil and structural estimates from early ROM budgets to bid-grade pricing.
• Build quantity takeoffs, earthwork balances, crew compositions and production rates.
• Identify risks involving soils, groundwater, site access, weather and constructability.
• Support field execution through RFIs, submittals, surveys, testing and anchor bolt layouts.
• Manage selected projects between design cycles including schedule, budget, and client communications.
• Establish civil design standards, estimating templates and QA procedures.
• Mentor civil engineers and designers while coordinating with mechanical, electrical and controls teams.

Power Generation | Heavy Industrial EPC | Remote in Western US

We are partnering with an established heavy industrial EPC contractor to appoint a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer who can take ownership of projects from early design and estimating through construction and commissioning.

The company delivers complex power generation, heavy civil and industrial projects across the United States. Its portfolio includes geothermal, gas turbine, cogeneration, advanced nuclear, process facilities and data center infrastructure, with extensive self-perform capabilities spanning civil, fabrication, mechanical, electrical, controls and commissioning.

This is not a purely desk-based engineering role. You will design the site and foundations, build an estimate that holds up through construction, and remain closely involved as the work moves into the field.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For

• BS in Civil or Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
• 10+ years of civil/structural engineering experience, including at least five years in power generation, heavy industrial or heavy civil construction.
• Active PE license, or the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
• Experience as a lead civil engineer or Engineer of Record on plant-scale projects.
• Strong foundation design experience, including heavy equipment and dynamic loading.
• Proven ability to build civil estimates from quantity takeoff through crew and production-based pricing.
• Working knowledge of Civil 3D, structural analysis software such as RISA, STAAD or SAP2000, and Excel.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, engineers and field crews.

Experience in geothermal, data centers, nuclear balance of plant, self-perform construction or HeavyBid would be particularly valuable.
