Summary: This position provides engineering project leadership and/or discipline support for various projects by researching, specifying, developing, designing, engineering, or testing components, equipment and/or systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following:

  1. Researches and analyzes data such as client design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application.
  2. Works with clients to develop a project’s scope of work, estimates, and/or schedules.
  3. Reviews and approves project drawings, standards and specifications.
  4. Develops major equipment and material selection, and construction specifications.
  5. Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
  6. Ensures that all assigned activities and operations comply with applicable codes, regulations and laws.
  7. Provides support during fabrication and installation phases to ensure engineering documents are followed.
  8. Coordinates activities with other project disciplines involved in fabrication, operation, application, and installation or repair of various materials, products or systems.
  9. Provides technical direction, support and information to other engineers, designers and drafters.
  10. Consistently demonstrates professional skills in structuring assigned activities, creativity, teamwork, communications, operational efficiencies, handling of a client’s changing needs, decision making, and analyzing and solving problems.
  11. Analyzes reports, maps, drawings, tests, and aerial photographs on soil composition, terrain, hydrological characteristics, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design project.
  12. Calculates cost and determines feasibility of project based on analysis of collected data.
  13. Prepares or directs preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, construction schedules and designs for project.
  14. Inspects construction site to monitor progress and ensure conformance to engineering plans, specifications, and construction and safety standards.
  15. Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  16. More senior individuals will have engineering experience including arctic civil/structural design and application of IBC, AWS, ASCE, AISC and national fire codes.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil or structural engineering from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum ten (10) years related experience required.
  • Civil PE required, SE preferred.
  • Prefer a candidate that has obtained their Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) status.
  • North Slope, Arctic, Canadian, Cold Regions, Offshore Structures, Telecom Infrastructures, Fire Protection and/or Petroleum Industry project experience is preferred but not required.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to management and client.

Mathematical Skills:

Comprehend and apply principles of calculus, modern algebra and statistical theory. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations and proofs and theorems. Ability to apply mathematical operations to work projects.

Reasoning Ability:

Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with non-verbal symbols (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in the most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Computer Skills:

Possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, word processing software; Excel spreadsheet software; Outlook e-mail software; and any other discipline-specific design or analysis software, as required.

Certificates and Licenses:

Prefer a candidate that has obtained their Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) status.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low.
