Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design in McLean, VA is seeking an Engineering Designer III to join our Civil/Site team. You will contribute to land development projects from concept through completion, supporting site layout, grading, stormwater, utilities, and erosion control design.

The ideal candidate has 4–7+ years experience in residential or commercial civil work, a Civil Engineering degree, and proficiency with Civil 3D. EIT or PE preferred.

Qualifications

• 4-7+ years of residential and/or commercial civil land development work experience.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) or PE preferred.
• Knowledge of local municipal, county and state land use regulations.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in stormwater management, hydraulics, and site development design.
• Demonstrated Civil 3D skills for site layout from concept to completion.
• Self-starter capable of working independently and in a team.
• Ability to read, write and understand English for job communications.

Responsibilities

• Review zoning ordinances and agency regulations to determine land development limitations.
• Conduct site investigation and due diligence, including coordination with outside agencies.
• Prepare concept drawings and coordinate with AutoCAD draftsmen.
• Lead design of stormwater management and conveyance systems using Civil 3D and hydraulics software.
• Perform pipe sizing, drainage area mapping, and hydrology analyses.
• Evaluate surface runoff, invert, slope, and hydraulic grade line using Rational Method and Manning's Equation.
• Apply local stormwater regulations and perform earthwork analysis for value engineering.
• Design subdivision and site layouts, and resolve utility conflicts.
• Prepare construction cost estimates for bonding and client purposes.
• Work independently and mentor other engineers.
