Job summary

Apex Companies is seeking a Senior Project Manager / Engineer 5 to lead a team of engineers on critical civil infrastructure projects across the western U.S. You will oversee planning, design, bidding and construction, while strengthening client relationships and guiding business development.

Qualified candidates bring a B.S. in Civil Engineering, 15+ years of civil experience, and PE licensure in Nevada or the ability to obtain it.

• 15+ years of civil engineering experience
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Nevada or ability to obtain it
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and lead multidisciplinary teams
• Experience with project proposals, scopes, budgets, and delivery of engineering projects
• Strong staff mentorship and performance management capabilities
• Experience with strategic planning, client development, and operations oversight
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Your Responsibilities as a Senior Project Manager:

• Lead and manage a team of engineers and technical staff on a wide variety of infrastructure projects‑from planning and design through bidding and construction.
• Drive operational excellence by monitoring project schedules, budgets, technical quality, and team workload.
• Strengthen and expand client relationships and workload through responsive, value‑driven engineering solutions.
• Guide and mentor staff to cultivate a high‑performing team culture focused on quality, accountability, and professional growth.
• Develop and strengthen client relationships by proactively identifying new business opportunities through networking, thoughtful engagement, proposal preparation, and client presentations, supporting the growth of our regional business development program.
• Partner with division leadership on strategic planning, business development, and client relationship management throughout the western U.S.
• Play a central role in talent development, succession planning, and long‑term organizational sustainability.
• Take the lead for refinement and implementation of the firm's strategy, business growth plan, and day‑to‑day operations of our Denver office to achieve overall corporate objectives and ensure profitability.

What we're looking for:

• B.S. in Civil Engineering (or related field)
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Nevada (or ability to obtain such a license)
• 15+ years of civil engineering experience
• Proven ability to manage client relationships and lead multidisciplinary project teams
• Project management experience including development of project proposals, scopes, budgets, and successful execution of engineering projects
• Strong staff mentorship and performance management capabilities
• Experience with strategic planning, client development, and operational oversight
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills, and strong interpersonal skills
