Prime Electric is seeking a Sr. Civil Electrical Estimator to join our team in Washington, DC.

The role focuses on estimating electrical construction projects in civil and underground sectors, with emphasis on WSDOT/SDOT compliance and collaborating with project managers and engineers for successful bids. The candidate will read diverse plans, develop take-offs, and supervise junior estimators, using tools like BlueBeam, Accubid, and LiveCount.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university is required.
• Five to seven years related estimating experience preferred.
• Experience evaluating and estimating design/build contract work.
• Proficient in reading BOMs, subcontractor quotes, and material quotes.
• Strong software skills with estimating tools and MS Office.

Responsibilities

• Produce precise electrical estimates for civil and underground projects.
• Lead Jr. Estimators, assign tasks, and review estimates for accuracy.
• Read and interpret civil, architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans.
• Develop project take-offs and equipment counts from drawings.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Sr. Civil Electrical Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in estimating electrical construction projects, particularly in the civil and underground sector with a focus on projects involving WSDOT and SDOT. The Sr. Civil Electrical Estimator will be responsible for accurately estimating project costs, preparing bids, and collaborating with project managers and engineers to ensure successful project completion within the specifications and standards of the governing body.

What You Will Do

Produce precise electrical estimates for various project types, including large civil construction projects.Collaborate with team members to ensure project requirements are met, including compliance with WSDOT, SDOT, and specifications and standards of the governing bodies.Work independently and manage Jr. Estimators, assigning tasks, providing direction, giving timelines, and reviewing for accuracy and completion.Read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, tele data, security, fire alarm, audio visual plans, and specifications as they relate to the electrical work.Demonstrate an understanding of, and clearly communicate, estimated scope of work.Develop project take-offs and equipment counts based upon the specifications and drawings.Utilize technology such as BlueBeam, Accubid and LiveCount to perform and document electrical budgets.Utilize understanding of basic circuitry and wiring methods for electrical systems.Provide support and training of estimating processes, procedures and systems for junior estimators, interns, and other team members as necessary.Contribute to and support value engineering exercises.Create scope letter content and OneNote required documentation, qualifications, and exclusions.Participate in Estimating team and review meetings and clearly define your estimate work product.Prepare detailed electrical estimates based on limited design information and/or narratives.Adhere to the PRIME Safety Program, complying with safety regulations, procedures and safe work practices.Maintain a physical presence onsite and provide assistance to specific groups, managers and project management teams as needed.Performs other duties as requested; duties, responsibilities and activities may change, or new ones may be assigned at any time with or without notice.

What You Will Need to be Successful

Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year college or university and five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experienceExperience evaluating and estimating design/build contract workAbility to review BOM of subcontractors, suppliers, and material quotes; determine completeness and compliance with bid documents; and make appropriate recommendationsAbility to train and educate others on estimating procedures and softwareAbility to quickly evaluate and estimate VE solutions.Advanced knowledge of structural, architectural and mechanical documents and their impact on electrical scope.Advanced Knowledge of NEC, local codes and construction methods.Advanced Knowledge of Electrical Materials and their applications.Knowledge of and experience with Accubid and LiveCount.Strong organizational, prioritization, multi-tasking and communication skills.Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.Experience with preparing, completing, explaining, and reviewing complex estimates with Chief Estimator, Internal, and External Customers.Experience with delivery models: Plan & Spec, Design-Assist, and Design-Build.Ability to grasp and follow existing estimating process and procedures.Experience with the appropriate application of a wide variety of electrical materials and methods of installation as it relates to database materials and assemblies to individual estimates.Strong work ethic.

Supervisory Responsibilities

• May supervise or coordinate the work of others who assist in specific assignments.

Special Requirements/Physical Demands/Working Conditions

Work is primarily performed in an office setting with minimal health or safety hazards. Noise level and temperature is moderate. Minimal lifting or climbing. This position is expected to be fully in-person, onsite, with some travel not limited to, other offices, work sites and local business errands. Requires operating office machines such as, but not limited to, computers, copiers, scanners, and phones.Communication Skills:Ability to read and interpret documents such as submittals, operations manuals and project schedules. Ability to write routine correspondence such as letters and memos. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to internal and/or external clients of the firm. Communicate clearly and effectively with project managers, team members, and stakeholders to support project execution.
