Job summary

Carollo Engineers, a leading water-focused engineering firm, seeks a senior environmental/civil engineer in California to lead wastewater design and plant projects. You will manage multidisciplinary teams, coordinate with clients, and deliver projects from concept through construction.

The role requires a PE license, 10–15 years of wastewater experience, and strong communication skills to guide design teams and stakeholders. Competitive compensation and benefits are offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering.
  • 10-15 years of wastewater design experience in environmental consulting with emphasis in hydraulics, treatment processes, and plant design.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer.
  • Experience managing/designing medium sized projects with budget/schedule/obligations.
  • Experience designing wastewater treatment plants including conceptual and detailed design.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and project team.
  • Deliver high quality services within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Experience with wastewater collection systems and water/reclaimed water transmission/distribution.
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Work on municipal water and wastewater projects, including major plant expansions and water reuse projects.
  • Perform engineering work in environmental practice for Water and Wastewater Treatment and Infrastructure (pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs).
  • Prepare reports, develop plans, specifications, and cost estimates for infrastructure projects.
  • Prepare technical memoranda, reports, data entry, and participate in construction phase.
  • Plan and conduct engineering work on medium to large projects of moderate complexity.
  • Act independently on technical matters in civil/environmental engineering.
  • Manage budget, schedule, contracts, and quality standards.
  • Train and monitor internal staff and client management relationships.
  • Represent the firm at professional associations and conventions.
  • Travel as required.

Responsibilities
  • Work on projects related to municipal water and wastewater treatment plants, including but not limited to major treatment plant expansions, regional water quality studies, and critical water reuse projects that will create sustainable and resilient water supplies for the world
  • Performs engineering work in various engineering fields within the Environmental Practice for Water and Wastewater Treatment and Infrastructure Practice such as pipelines, pump stations and reservoirs
  • Works on engineering designs, prepare reports, develop plans, prepare specifications, and cost estimates for various water and wastewater infrastructure projects, permitting and alternative analysis
  • Prepares technical memoranda, reports and electronic deliverables; data entry and analysis, and working through the construction phase on the projects
  • Plans, schedules, and conducts engineering work on projects of medium to large sizes of moderately complex nature
  • Responsible for acting independently on technical matters pertaining to civil/environmental engineering field
  • Responsible for budget, schedule, contractual obligations and quality standards
  • Responsible for training and monitoring internal staff
  • Responsible for acting independently and making authoritative decisions on technical matters
  • Develops significant relationships with new and existing clients and has responsibility for client maintenance
  • Supports firm's relationships with client management personnel
  • Active in professional associations, including attendance and participation in local, regional, and national conventions
  • Travel required when requested
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in civil, environmental, or chemical engineering
  • 10-15 years of wastewater design experience in the field of environmental consulting engineering with an emphasis in hydraulics, physical, chemical, and biological treatment processes and treatment plant design
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer
  • Must have demonstrated experience with managing and designing medium sized projects with full responsibility for budget, schedule, contractual obligations and quality standards
  • Experience designing wastewater treatment plants, including development of conceptual/preliminary designs and detailed design document preparation
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients and project team
  • Deliver high quality services within budget and schedule constraints
  • Experience working with wastewater collection systems and water and reclaimed water transmission/distribution projects
  • Proficient in MS Word and Excel
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in civil or environmental engineering
Compensation Range

$106,056 to $177,650 annually. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
