Opportunity:

Our Parsons Irvine, California office is now hiring for a highly experienced Senior / Principal Design Civil Engineer with our road, highway, and rail/transit team.

We are one of the world’s largest transportation planning, engineering, and construction firms. We have an extensive portfolio of diverse transportation projects including rail and transit, road and highway, bridge and tunnel, and aviation infrastructure. Our expertise encompasses all phases of transportation engineering operations - from the initial planning stage through final design, construction, and commissioning. We are looking for an experienced Road/Highway Design engineer to perform a variety of engineering tasks by applying standard engineering techniques and analyses within the civil engineering discipline. This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer to lead and mentor junior engineering staff, to join an established team of experts, and work on many exciting new projects and proposals! Our Engineers enjoy diversity in their work - you might work on a state road rehabilitation, a highway project, adding a new lane, interchanges, and paving design. We offer hybrid remote working (meaning, allowed to work from home virtually 2-3 days per week).

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilize specifications to complete proposed designs, and collaborate with other engineers and clients to finalize and complete highway and road designs.
  • Design horizontal and vertical geometry for highway and road projects, and analyze cross sections, calculate super-elevations, grading vertical alignments, and horizontal impacts for roads and highways in California.
  • Work as a subject matter expert in design and engineering of complex road and highway interchanges, rampways, and loops.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers and less experienced staff on various transportation projects.
  • Perform vertical clearance calculations, grading and permit/plan preparation, as well as use existing horizontal alignments to design new roadway alignments.
  • Perform material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and surveys.
  • Review contractor supplied drawing submittals and assist in performing technical bid analyses.
  • Prepare and issue specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
  • Perform other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of a 4-year Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (or related field). Master’s degree is desirable.
  • Candidates with 8 years or more of related road/highway design experience will be considered, with a preference for candidates with substantial horizontal/vertical geometrics work experience.
  • Experience designing highways, roads, intersections, calculating vertical clearances, and drafting in CAD (either AutoCAD or MicroStation) is preferred. Experience with complex interchanges and rampway design is also preferred.
  • PE license in California or other states is highly preferred.
  • Any experience with Caltrans projects is highly desirable.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • High level of experience and competency with CAD, MicroStation, Open Roads or InRoads, and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering. AutoCAD Civil 3D is also considered.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate both written and orally with other engineers and clients is required.

Salary Range:

$83,300.00 - $168,700.00
