Senior Civil Engineer - Transportation

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars, Inc has a part-time opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer - Transportation for our Philadelphia office. Experience managing transportation projects and will be a Registered Professional Engineer in the state of Pennsylvania.

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Employment Type: 20-30 PT Hours

Compensation Type: Hourly

Registration(s): Professional Licensed Engineer

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering

Duties:

  • Provide site and building assessments for potential capital projects for transit agencies.
  • Provide guidance for procuring contractors for state of good repair needs.
  • Provide reviews of construction drawings.
  • Assist in maintaining project database.
  • Provide assistance to CMO as needed for preventative maintenance manuals, historical costs database and independent cost estimates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertakes Project Manager responsibilities for major projects ($2.0+ million annual billing).
  • Prepares and follows comprehensive Project Framework Instructions and proper work planning for a project. Ensures proper staff is assigned and utilized on their projects.
  • Reviews project reports and performance metrics to track project progress and budget. Leads successful projects (profit, on-schedule, quality, satisfied client).
  • Contributes to successful delivery and performance of projects.
  • Cultivates relationships with clients and holds strong relationships with clients.
  • Understands, follows, and enforces Huitt-Zollars' business process including weekly rhythm.
  • Takes active steps in the pursuit of winning new business or additional opportunities with existing clients and is responsible for assigned portion of office sales goal. Assists and/or leads team in pursuit of new work (repeat work, SOQ and Proposals). Develops and/or executes project Win strategy.
  • Understands and follows HZ QMS and Quality initiatives. Ensures quality control measures are being adhered to on projects and daily operations.
  • Actively engages and participates in the training, coaching, and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 15 years of experience
  • Must be a Licensed Engineer (P.E.) in the state of Pennsylvania
  • Proficient in MS Office and Bluebeam
  • Ability to drive to construction sites throughout Pennsylvania
  • Strong civil engineering technical skills
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Good with clients, experience in business development and proposal preparation

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
