Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to lead land development design and permitting for projects across commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors, with a focus on Oak Ridge, TN. The role requires a PE license, 8–12 years of civil site development experience, and the ability to manage multiple projects, mentor junior staff, and coordinate with clients and multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Minimum of 8–12 years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on site development.
• Must be able to show proof of US citizenship (to comply with government customer requirements and/or applicable government regulations).
• Strong working knowledge of site development design practices, permitting, and construction processes.
• Experience with stormwater management design and hydrologic/hydraulic modeling.
• Proficiency with relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, StormCAD, HydroCAD, or similar).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the planning and design of site development projects, including grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, erosion and sediment control, and roadway access.
• Prepare and review civil engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents.
• Ensuring designs comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, codes, and standards.
• Provide quality control and technical oversight for work produced by junior engineers and designers.
• Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including scope, schedule, budget, and resource allocation.
• Develop project work plans, manpower estimates, and participate in proposal efforts.
• Coordinate with clients, Architects, Surveyors, Structural Engineers, Contractors, and other consultants throughout project development.
• Support construction administration services, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting site visits.
• Lead permitting efforts and coordinate with local agencies, utilities, and regulatory bodies.
• Prepare and submit land development, zoning, and permitting applications.
• Address regulatory comments and support entitlement processes.
• Mentor and provide guidance to junior and mid-level engineers, EITs, and CAD designers.
• Foster collaboration within project teams and across disciplines.
• Contribute to process improvements, standards development, and technical best practices.
• Maintain strong client relationships and provide technical support during business development efforts.
• Assist with identifying new project opportunities and expanding existing client relationships.
• Represent the firm during client meetings and stakeholder engagements.

We are currently seeking a Senior Civil Engineer to support our Oak Ridge, TN office.

The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for leading the planning, design, permitting, and execution of land development projects across commercial, industrial, and institutional sectors. Required Qualifications:

• Professional Engineer (PE) license required

Work Location:

This position is remote/hybrid work with a preferred for this position to be worked full‑time in Oak Ridge, TN. For people within 50 miles of the Oak Ridge, TN office, a hybrid option requiring a person to be in office for minimum of 50% of the week. For people outside of 50 miles, a remote option with quarterly travel to the Oak Ridge, TN office is available. For hybrid and remote work, you are required to provide and work in a secured location as approved by the company within the United States due to the projects that you will be participating in.

Compensation Details:

$109,000 - $175,000

The compensation range or hourly rate listed for this position is provided as a good‑faith estimate of what the company intends to offer for this role at the time this posting was issued. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
